** puts on flame-proof suit **Ok... so here's the thing. I am really tired of people who whine when the commander is in a vehicle of flying a chopper. Let me make this very clear, I do not agree with a commander flying a jet, because you don't have time to do things.But... When I command, I am often found running around in a buggy or APC or tank. I also take flags and kill people while being commander. Sometimes I fly a BH or MEC chopper while I am commanding and pick people up and drop them at flags. Now I realize you can't earn points while you're doing this stuff when you're the commander. You ca however, help your team win by supporting them and also being a valuable member of the team.For the record, I am constantly dropping supplies, UAV, scanning and dropping arty WHILE I am running around. Yes I can actually get in and out of the commander screen while flying a chopper and respond to requests. I don't fly attack choppers while I command.Anyone else out there like me? I am just so tired of hearing how you're supposed to be staring at a screen in the command mode when things are reloading (arty etc) while you could be assisting on a flag cap of transporting your troops at the same time.... and bofore andyone brings it up. I am a good commander. I do respond to my teams requests. I do have an expert command badge and can do two things at the same time because I know how to multi-task.

In my opinion if your commanding you should be watching the movement of enemy squads and zooming in and out on flags when waiting for assets to recharge. You should also be communicating with your squads. Too many people think its only about assets and very few actually spot.
The way i look at it is, if your driving an apc or flying a chopper, your not doing enough as commander and if your doing your job as commander your wasting a vehicle/chopper which is a very valuable asset. If its a very lightly populated server then fine, i have no issue with it, i will use armour myself as i command. -

Well, my buddy got kicked from the 3Guns server last night for helping capture our main base flag (where his assets are). So, it can get you in trouble. I had some words for them as they not only booted him but called him a "N" word. They couldn't believe that he had 8 kills, well those 8 kills were made BEFORE he decided to become commander and help the team out.
I think if you can be a good commander (give proper UAVs, good artis, well placed supply drops, and spot enemies) while you are in the BH flying it, then more power to you. I just don't see how this guy "MailMan[3Guns]" booted my friend for "not doing his job as commander" which he described as "Finding a crack or a dark spot, laying down and doing nothing but commanding" when out of his 1600hrs he has only 30hrs commanding.
So ya, if you can be productive all the while and you aren't hindering your team..... Then more power to you. Just remember, if you are flying the BH, it means you MAY be taking it away from a squad that can be more productive than you using the BH.Comment

I do just the same... I almost fight all the time as infantry (rarely hop into land vehicles) while I'm commanding. Having UAV anywhere you need is a huge advantage and dorpping supply crates to 'your' tanks and apcs makes them undestroyable :) Sometimes I even play as a medic while I'm a commander... I dont care if I dont get any points for reviving, healing, the only thing that matters that my team rulz and I kick ass hard

I try to be stationary commander, but if I see somone trying to take over our flag or destroy my toys and nobody responds to the command to defent that coordinate, damn right I'll jump in a jeep or even a chopper if available to defend it. Same goes for attacking lightly defended enemy flags. You can do many things as a commander during the idle time between artillery strikes and honoring UAV/supply requests.Comment

I'm stationary and generally get told that I'm a great commander, although sometimes it's more than I can handle. On a large server with lots of squads that are actively asking for support, it can be a might difficult. Also, I hate commanding anything except the US because the opposition hardly has any good hiding spots for a stationary commander. It's not fair.
If you're commander, either be engineer so you can fix your assets, or sniper so you don't show up on uav (don't move or you WILL). If you're commanding well, you'll also find that their commander will waste his artillary and uav on you, giving your team a further advantage.
I hate seeing my commander flying or riding around or even in hand-to-hand combat because it means he's not watching my back which is his job. Find a hiding spot, and stay in your command screen for the whole game. It's fun, Godlike, and if you do a good job people will appreciate it better than anything you can do on the field.Comment

I am constantly running UAV's, spotting, dropping arty, dropping supply crates all while I run around. No one is left out requesting something. I respond to requests the moment they are made.
I won't get booted because it's our server.
The guys that play on our server have come to expect that when I am on the same side and commanding, things will get done. It's also nice to know your commander won't let the flag he is at go down without a fight.
I understand the squad and BH thing. I don't often fly the BH because of it, but sometimes I do. It depends on the team. If my team isn't doing anything then I get more aggressive and get things done on my own. I have gone out of rounds where I took more flags and killed more people as commander, then the rest of my team.Comment

I personally think that you are taking on far too many tasks at the same time! I have no doubt that you can fly a BH and do a fair job at commanding, but being commander (as you well know) requires you to be the eyes of the battlefield, watch and predict enemy movement, constantly dropping UAVs and supplies (whether asked for or not) and repairing assets.
I don't see how you can excel at either unless you solely dedicate yourself to one task!

I'm only going by what I've been told. Supposably a stationary sniper doen't show up via uav or scan. Can only be picked out. I haven't been commander in a while, and snipers usually move, so can't say for sure.Comment

Commanding is not a constant thing. Each time you use one of your tools, you cannot use it again for a short period. Things take time to re-charge. You don't have a full arsenal at all times. You cannot be doing something at every available moment in the game because once you use a tool, it has to re-charge. You also do not need to sit staring at a screen to do a good job of spotting.
Maybe I am the exception to the rule. I seem to be able to do the things most say you can't while being commander. It's not that hard. It's not like dog fighting in a jet or flying an attack chopper. You only need about 5-10 seconds in the commander screen to deploy anything you need. If you check the screen once every 15-20 seconds or so, you can stay on top of everything and use the tools you have as they become available. IMHO Pretty simple really.Comment

There's more to it than just running a few assets and honoring a few requests. You are supposed to actively spot out enemy, especially when your uav isn't available. Plus, you should be strategizing which flags to take and issuing orders. In reality, if you're doing your job, you shouldn't leave the command console at all. There's just no time to do it unless you're defending yourself or your NEARBY assets. The only time it's okay to go active into the field is if no ones listening to your orders or to save your assetts quicker than supply drops can, or if you're down to one flag and everyones in one location.Comment
