Re: The Anti-Tank Shortage: When do you play AT?

I have to honestly say i use the AT kit alot i just like killing vehicals i love it in fact. Nothing better then ruining a good tankers fun on karkland by wasting that tank within the first minute of thing getting near the front lines.

Heres a bit of advice though for the people that struggle with the AT kit you NEED to play in a squad its not a lonewolf kit . You go lonewolf with the AT kit and your making it harder on yourself it can be done if your really good but its much harder. For me one AT guy with a bit of cover is easilly a match for a tank (apc's are harder) but biggest problem youll find with the AT kit is you run out of missles espeacilly if you're taking on multiple peaces of armour. Thats one of the reasons you need to be in a squad (to get resuplied) if you have no missles your just a guy running around with an smg or the DOA (i like call it that because your dead on my arrival  ). Another reason you need to be in a squad is to get healed regulary (thats just a general rule to all the kits besdies medics) there wont be many occassions when you take on a tank or apc and dont come out of it banged up quite a bit.

To all those that dont like AT try it again its a great kit go squad leader aswell and get a good medic to follow you around like a little angle and ill put money on it you and the medic get the 2 top spots on your team most of the time.

Except the AT kit usually avoids the TK's (unless a Spec Ops guy is planting the C4 just as you hit the tank... )

It depends on the map, for Karkand it is one of my primary kits for example...
And if I join a big squad that alredy has a support guy and a couple of medics I will choose Assault, Engineer or AT depending on the situation...

But yeah I will switch to it if get blown away at a spawn by armour...

Again, I can't get enough of the kit. I can kill 1 person, kill the medic that goes after him. kill the medic that goes after Him, kill the guy that just spawned, run away and get healed. Easy

I usually bust the AT out in Karkand and Wake. Usually only after i see a lack of AT guys on the battlefield. Just like how i'd switch to medic, if my teams medics aren't doing their job.

I tend to spend the vast majority of my time as an AT unless on a map where tanks don't tend to be an overwhelming factor. Time and time again you'll see bases being overrun simply because someone has a tank and can kill people as they respawn. There does seem to be a lack of people playing AT and you can almost see the surprise when an enemy suddenly finds their tank smoking from one well placed shot from a sneaky AT'er hiding around a corner.
I find it a good balance for long range fire (snipers who haven't seen you, for example) and with the DAO-12 unlocked (currently stuck at Corporal rank here...) you have a very strong close range weapon that can also do quite nicely against helicopters or aircraft from close range.
One extremely annoying thing though is the frequency at which you find rockets going straight through a jeep, APC or buggy at shorter distances head on, point blank range where it is literally impossible to miss. Some odd quirk of the clipping I guess, but it's incredibly frustrating to be run over because your shot went right through the front of the target due to it.

The reason why I like the AT kit is because of the DAO-12. Also the SRAW can by very handy for light armor vehicles, and if you learn how to use it properly, against heavy armor too. It may take you as little as 2 rockets to kill a tank as long as you aim for the weak parts.

I will pick the SMGs to defend the suburbs from a large squad attack on Karkand, for example.
If I'm in CQC and I have to reload the DAO, I will let it reload 4 or 5 shells, then switch to pistol and back to the DAO again. This gives me 4 or 5 shots with the DAO, while not having to wait for the Full reload. It's not perfect, but it has saved my life a few times.

Re: The Anti-Tank Shortage: When do you play AT?

I play the AT kit a lot lately. There are a number of reasons:

                    - I found out how excellent the missiles are against infantry. I'm good at timing them, guiding them and firing from the hip. If I meet someone at close range I can just jump and blast them before switching to the SMG. If they prone they're almost definitely dead. Snipers are so easy to take out with missiles. So what if they run out really fast? I'm likely to have killed at least 1-2 people with my ammo so I've definitely done my part for the team.

                    - You're more or less ready to take on whatever comes at you. The AT kit fights tanks and apcs as well as putting up a decent fight against infantry with the DAO, missiles and heavy armor. You can even hurt or kill helicopters if they're dumb enough to hover. Compare to what happens to medics, snipers and support if a tank or APC comes rolling in...

                    - On bigger maps the main danger is almost certainly vehicles. If you don't have one you'd better have a good deterrent.

I admit that it's annoying how many missiles some vehicles take before blowing up, but that's life. AT should get more points for doing their job however.

My favourite AT play is the opening of MEC on karkand. It's their job to make sure the US doesn't break through the front line in some vehicle. So many good barriers to hide behind before popping up and sending rocket death into oncoming metal.

I just want to note that only 25 of the 163 respondents, or about 15% of people, play anti-tank regularly. That's actually pretty balanced if we assume an even distribution of kit usage.

Put in game terms, it means that your 16 man team will only have 2-3 on-the-spot, ready-to-go AT players. When it takes at least 2 to quickly dispath a tank, you can see why there's a problem.

I used to play quite a bit of AT, but I found it easier to let the tanks come to me and use C4 instead.
