I am sure that this is true (that there are good squads, but I prefer to make my own decisions, the reason I wouldn't consider forming a solo squad, is because other people join them (I want don't want to be worried with telling them what to do, I'd be a bad squad leader).

The point is that if you have no intention of playing by publicly stated local rules, you have no business playing there.

This goes for any server any rule.

If you don't like it, LEAVE.
That way you'll avoid getting booted/banned AND you'll help reduce their player count. If it's so amasingly lame, everyone should agree with your opinion and there will be no on playing there, right?

Apparently this is not the case. Whatever server you were playing on was not empty. Thus, people were playing by the rules and enjoying it.
      You have no legit complaint.

Er, apparently now you do since it violates the ROE... but I'm assuming this happened without that knowlage in your head.

Just join a squad. I don't understand why so many people never do. Just because you join one doesn't mean that you have to play with them. Just join one and then play lonewolf anyway, at least that way you have one more spawnpoint.

On a side note: I'm also sick of seeing like 12 one man squads, and then people keep trying to create more and a message comes up on screen that there are too many squads. If you look on the squad screen and see 12 one man squads don't you think, "hey, maybe I should join one of those squads and not try to make a new one". Whats wrong with people for f|_|cks sake. Gah!!! I can't take this anymore!!!

Sometimes though, if everyone made a squad and maxed all the squads out then you are going to have to join a squad you will hate and not be able to make your own which you could use to actually use teamwork with. They should take that to unranked servers really.

Here's the problem I have with squads: I'm a sniper, that's what I like to do, it's one of the reasons I bought the game. If I join a squad, I'll (a) be taking up a slot the squad could maybe put to better use with an assault or medic or whatever, and (b) it's often happened that people leave the squad and I become default leader. Which does nobody any good at all, since people spawning on my position just means death.

That's why I don't like to be obliged to join a squad. I don't do anyone any harm by lone wolfing, and I sure as hell won't be obeying any commands to take a flag or (as one particularly clueless commander once requested) repair any assets.

            Squads don't suit everyone.

Your not getting kicked out of every server for not joining, just this one. Get over it, join another server.

I don't think you should be kicked/banned if you don't, but at the same time, who cares just move on to a different server.

Though I recommend squad play I agree with Talus on this. Go in peace, err..... violence.

Re: Does anyone here think not joining a squad is a good reason for being kicked?

Firstly, was it a Ranked or Unranked Server? If it was an Unranked Server, they can kick when and where they like, regardless to what the ROE say.

Secondly, to the person who only plays Sniper.....I play Sniper, even in a Squad. And most of the time I'm the SL with the Sniper Kit.....Sniping is both frontline AND distance work. Being Sniper you can hang back 50-150m from the entire objective, ie Capturing a Flag, and help keep an eye out for enemy and eliminating them when possible. Handy if you're SL too, and you're guys can keep spawning on you!
If you just Snipe for distance, then this isn't your game! This game is a team related game, there has been soooo many times I have been on a Server as Commander, and we lose every point for spawning, then you just see that lonely lil' Sniper doing nothing but sitting there.....Why do that?!? Why ain't you helping "your" team, especially in that time of need.

Personally, I hate lonewolves AND if there was a lu-pole I could use to kick these people off my server to allow people in who work as a team, I would, but I can't due to the ROE.

My Server is based on Teamwork, as teamwork wins the rounds. Lonewolves are only there for one thing, and that's point whoring!! But hey, everyone has their opinions and how they play :)

I totally agree with the people who kicked you, so find another server OR learn to see the achievements of being in a Squad.
See, being in a Squad gives you a sense of achievement that you helped win the round, and especially when you see that "your" squad was the top Squad for "your" team or even the entire Map!

                    Anyways, rant off....

My question is why not join a squad?

The only reason you'd want to be alone is if your a sniper. In this case i create a squad and lock it. This means i can still take instructions from my commander yet no one spawns on my location giving my position away.

Rules meen nothing in bf2. Lots of padders are reported and servers with illegal rules and nothing is done. Just look at bf2rankedservers.com forum and you will see how many people and servers had been reported more than once and EA does nothing to stop them, they keep going. So stast and server rules means nothing! Any one can stat pad and buy a server and put any rule they want. Padders pay for games, so EA don't want to loose customers. So now you know the true. Don't take my word for it. Go to the forums and read.

Hasn't that changed again now and that rule removed from the ROE? I'll have to check back again because the rules are being tweaked atm. This rule has now changed and servers can force people to join a squad if they want to. We don't have this rule, however, we do encourage people to join a squad. Whether you think being forced to be in a squad is a good rule or not its really irrelevant because its not against the ROE to force people to join a squad or risk getting kicked. If a server has this rule then you should respect that rule or as Gimpy said vote with your feet and find another of the 3000+ servers that doesn't have this rule.

I must say I was suprised that the commander can't fly rule was against the rules and literally in 10 minutes from feedback from the community it changed to we can have the rule commanders can't fly, which is much appreciated. Thanks again Indian Scout! In fact its now against the ROE for commanders to fly or be in a vehicle here is the updated rule:

2.3 You may not deliberately hinder your own team or acting in such a way as to cause team mates unavoidable deaths or team losses.

§Commander flying or in a vehicle instead of commanding

If its a server specific rule, than just change servers. I like playing in squads, and I like lone wolfing it it all depends on my mood or if Im trying some new things I dont want to be bound to a squad and not be in the thick with them its not fair to them, especially when Im running around putting C-4 in all kinds of rediculous places and they need ammo or a medic.
I typically score more points as a lone wolf so I like doing that for unlocks sake, but I love the tactical aspect that can be used in a squad even if it costs me some points. I think the coming mods such as POE2, Forgotten Hope2 and a few otheres will really cater to squad based play more than the vanilla BF2.

Honestly, if you can't join a squad for a short time and act like a team, then maybe you should get kicked. I' not trying to be mean, but that forces a good team atmosphere.
What kind of logic is that?

Why should I be kicked if I like to play lone wolf?

Anyways, team spirit/gameplay isn't everthing, I mean Ive seen servers with no squads (bug) that had more teamwork that servers with squads.

Not to mention joining a squad doesnt mean you have to use teamwork anyways....

This is simple really and is part of the whole "Server Rules and they should not apply to me because I disagree with them" discussion...

If it is the server rules to join a squad they that is what I will do, simple...

You could even start a squad called "Snipers and other Lone Wolves" and "Pilots" and all do your own thing if you really don;t like working with squads.

The ROE not allowing this (on ranked servers I guess) is interesting...
