Re: There is a problem with your connection????

    Folks,

I had the same thing and did what everyone here suggested. I have my machine hardwired to the router via a 20 foot rj45 cable going around my room and passing quite a few electrical wires along the way. I raised the cable above the wires and so far (past 2 hours) have not had any disconnects. Still testing but it looks promising :)

Re: There is a problem with your connection????

      I get the same thing.

Doesnt seem to matter where I play or what the ping on that server is.

Sometimes the game just stops for a second. I get the "bad connection" message then it continues. (This will cause you to crash if you are flying LOL)

Sometimes if the "freeze" lasts longer I will get dumped out of the server.

I'll try the default settings thing to see how that works.

Doesn't seem though that the problem is in the actual internet connection?
Somewhere between my computer and the server?

I have been playing for almost 2 months now with the same connection to my router (not wireless). I have it connected using the RJ45 and once in awhile I get the "bad connection" error. I just reconnect back and everything plays out smoothly, It just started happening this month. My specs are:

            AMD 3500+
            2GB ram
            7800GT

I have everything set to high in BF2

No didn't work. But the strange thing is that I always can connect on the first sever I join. Later it doesn't work most of the tim it says There is a problem with your connection before I can play.

You are a victim of EMI.

On topic: While wireless is a great option for simply browsing the internet and checking email....its obviously NOT a good choice for gaming.

Chances are you are on 802.11G which has a max throughput of 54Mbps, which is crap. You should be running the minimum hardware to play BF2 effectively over broadband.

                100mbps NIC
                Cat 5e UTP patch cable
                Router/Switch at 100mbps

Make sure your patch cable is quality....if too much wire is exposed at the end before the RJ45 connector, you can get cross talk. If you leave the patch cable near other electrical wires, you can get EMI. Additionally, many devices cause transmission interfereance iwth wireless devices....such as radios, walkie talkies, cell phones, microwaves (a bad one).

Its best to run hard lines with a min. speed of 100mbps.

If your feeling zesty, upgrade all of your stuff to Gigabit (1000mbps) although its not entirely needed.

I am having the same problem I read the posts on this thread, and I am running an ethernet cable to my router, which has maybe 5 other cables coming into it and one going out, to the cable modem....

What exactly should I change to make my setup umm, less flaky...

                      Folks,

I have DMZ enabled and I'm wondering if openning the specified ports will improve things.... AND ifso, which port need to be open? I have a Linsys BFSR41 VERSION 3 router. The version 3 part is important because for some reason, it is way different from a BFSR41. Don't know why but whatever.... :)

                        Hi Guys,

Broke the number one rule of posting, sorry. I did a bit of digging and found the ports to open and despite the fact that DMZ is enabled, it really did make a difference in my connection and playability. Now I can take someone out without emptying an entire mag into them like another poster said. GOOD STUFF!!!
