Ok, do you know how to make a partition on your HDD? Or even better, do you have a second hard disk? You could try installing a fresh copy of WindowsXP on a separate drive/partition, and install BF2 on the clean OS. Like this you could make sure that it's not your hardware causing the issue. This without losing any data. Don't worry about activatin windows etc, because it's just for testing if everything is ok with your hardware. Just install the OS, all patches, updates, drivers, etc.
If we're lucky we can really narrow down the potential cause of this installation problem to a corrupt WinXP OS.
This will also make sure that your hardware is alright - if the installation succeeds under the clean WinXP
