My new rank..

Hi,

I was Master Sergeant then i got promoted to Sergeant Major, i missed out 2 ranks First Sergeant & Master Gunnery. Is this because i have all the basic medals & 50k score, if so is this a good thing because i was really looking forward to playing for the other 2 ranks.

Anyone had this?

You don't get First Sergeant if you didn't have all your basic badges not because you *do* have them as you stated in your post.

if you have all the basic combat badges before 20,000 points, you will get first sergeant, if not you will get master sergeant

then if u have all the other basic badges (ground defense, helicopter etc) before 50,000 you will get sergeant major, if not you will get master gunnery

when applying for commander, its based on your total global points. so a master gunnery sergeant with 75,000 points out ranks a sergeant major with 60,000 points

It's so easy to get Sergeant Major...when you see Master Gunnery Sergeants it makes you wonder what they've done to not get the basic vehicle badges in 50,000 points...

Ok no college degree here yet but how can you put down master sergeant when that is what you have? I as other bypassed it due to actually getting the badges. Think before you type young padawan!

I've got a question in this regard. I'm a Gunnery Sergeant. When I get to my next rank if I don't yet have all the badges for First Sergeant then I will become a Master Sergeant. Will I then become a First Sergeant as soon as I get the badges or do I have to have them before becoming Master Sergeant?

All I know is this: First Sergeant with 20,000 points outranks Master Sergeant with 49,999 points. That's why I tried very hard to get all the badges before I hit 20,000 points, and it was well worth it.

no, if you dont make First Sergeant at 20k, you'll never get it, and you'll have to wait till 50k for a shot at Sergeant Major. If you dont have all the basics in at 50k, you'll only be promoted to Master Gunnery Sergeant.

i went from gunnery to first sergeant :)
had most of the ribbons, ALL of the basic badges, some expert and mroe veternan

How about playing the game rather than running around like a jackass trying to knife a dude while your team suffers for it. I'll not do any of that idiotic anti team behavior to get some pixel medal and Rank title that basically says "hey I like to play BF2 like an MMORPG".

I'll proudly wear the lower rank.

no, you wont rank from master to 1st sgt. You have to wait till sgt major. And yes the ranks are different as far as getting the commander spot goes. Though master and 1st are the same pay grade, 1st will override masters chance at getting commander. I know, it has happened to me several times and had nothing to do with total global score.

The ranks mirror the actual USMC ranks. Everyone can get to Gunnery Sergeant but then it can take two paths depending on the medals. In real life it depends on if you choose the ground side where you are more in charge of troops...ie First Sergeant and then Sergeant Major. If you choose the technical speciality of your MOS then it is Master Sergeant and then Master Gunnery Sergeant. Think of it this way with rank numbers....

Private = E1
Private First Class = E2
Lance Corporal = E3
Corporal = E4
Sergeant = E5
Staff Sergeant = E6
Gunnery Sergeant = E7
Then depending on Medals but still are equal
First Sergeant = E8 or Master Sergeant = E8
Still depending on Medals
Sergeant Major = E9 or Master Gunnery Sergeant = E9
Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps (Best Sergeant Major)
2nd Lieutenant

Sorry so lengthy but anyone who has been in the Marines knows what I mean.
