Re: bf2 crashes 2 desktop help!! plzz!!!!

I just had the game crash earlier so I logged back on to play about 30mins then join another server and it crashes. It only happens to me during the join game loading screen usually after everything is loaded...This can't be a case of overheating it's just BF2 netcode like someone said it's awful. This game has such bad performance...

    AMD 64 3500+
    X800 XL
    Win Xp Home
    1 Gb DDR 400
    500W PSU
    6MB cable

ASUS Probe PC temp after playing some BF2...

    Mobo 27*C peak

        try reinstalling BF2.

yeah, i know it sounds like moronic stupid advice that wont solve anything, except for me whenever BF2 stops working randomly a reinstall fixes everything.

only takes a few minutes too.

BF2 does have a memory leak issue, that was not addressed and not fixed in the the 1.2. In Fact the memory leak is worst in the 1.2 version.

your not over heating tons of people are having this issue just wait for EA's greed to subdue, and some time in the next 6 months after they stop releasing the next 5 expantions, and after you rant and rave about them not working they will finaly release a patch for the first screwup

My specs r 3200 processor (dno wot make etc)
                    1.5 gig ram
                    Radeon 9800 pro 128mb
                    120 HD
                    Nvidia sound card i think

im working on 1000 sumfin x 700 something at the mo video settings, and everything on mediam

Im put the video settings onto 600 x something and all settings on low and it still sends me bak 2 the desktop!

Plz can someone post n tell me how to stop this from happening!? dont tell me to get another video card bcasue i had a radeon 9200 and it was sending me to the desktop, so i then bought a radeon 9800 pro, so i dont think its my vid card bcoz i think loads of ppl hav got worse cards than me and thers is working fine

                    thanks
ok you were using 1024x728 res then switch to 800x600 yeh?

but what refresh rate did u chose?????

to be safe make sure its on 60hrz (in bf2)

so use 800x600 60hrz and tell me if it crashes to desktop then.

Ive got the sieds off my PC with a Fan blowing in it......it still gets to above 70'.......apart from overheating, any other solutions? ive got a radeon x700, catalyst 6.1 driver, Realtek AC97, Ecs 661fx motherboard, 1024MB RAM....it meets all the requirements. Whats going on?
when did u last change the heatsink paste on youre heatsink?????

more than 12 months im guessing?

tip(for experience ppl) get some silver compond (thermal paste)and clean of the old and replace with new.

tip(unexperienced ppl) buy a new heatsink there cheap and will solve heat problems

you must have a heat problem also,

new heatsink and possible a new psu aswell.

                    how old is youre psu?
                    what power is it?
when did u last change heatsink?? or apply thermal paste?

i doubt its bf2,more likely a hardware fualt.

pc can turn off if they get to hot ect.

hit ctrl-crl-del and tell me how many proceses u have running ,
it could be you have to mutch running for 1gb of ram, also what settings are you playing at.

                        Try clearing you DMP file.

                        C:\Documents and Settings\??????\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Dmp\

                        Delete everything in the file.

                        __________________________________________________ ___________________

Also clear out your logo cache.

                        C:\Documents and Settings\?????\My Documents\Battlefield 2\LogoCache\

Both of these files get loaded up and cause problems.
                        __________________________________________________ ___________________

Your power supply is fine. I run a 375watt with an intel 820d and a 7800gtx oc.
Here is a power supply calculator if you dont believe.

If it was hard crashing everytime it would be your power supply.
If crashing to desktop its software.

youre power supply is 2years old i suggest u get a new one.
                                as for the heat paste.

it comes in various things mostly in a suringe type thing,
anyway youre prosseser sits in the mobo and on top of it is a heatsink ok,

u need to have thermal paste on the heatsink to make sure of a good contackt between cpu and heatsink.

after 12months this needs to be changed.

take it from somebody who repair and make pc for a living (me) that this is probaly youre problem.

if i was to fix your's i would
a:apply some new heatspreader(after cleaning old of) then apply a silver compound(best heatspreader u cant get)
and also fit a new psu(if the old one is 2years old)

                                or

b: buy a new heatsink (comes with thermalpaste on already)
and get a new psu 500+watts with good amprage on the 12v rail(look at the sticker on the side of psu(ask to have a look when u buy a new one)
make sure its got 18amp on the 12 v rail <--minimum

why ? so if u upgrade u can take new psu (save money)
new heatsink?(easy to install and will last atleast 12months.

                                goodluck

                                ok ppl.

i cant answer all threads but some info that may interest you with the problems.

1.if a pc just frezes in game, then its a very low chance its anything to do with a patch, something in the cpu is not right.

2.this can range from powersupply going, exsessive heat due to a old heatsink(12months oldect)

3.poorly maintain hardrive(recomend defrag every2days) not keeping youre hardrive healthy will result in allsorts of problems and eventualy hd will no longer work.

4.dust will stick to everything in youre case clean it regulary, note if you smoke near youre cpu then this will diposit a stick residue on component and attract dust faster.

5.update anti virus regulary, use spyware removal programs like spybot and adware (free)

6.free up as mutch ram, close down unessary programs,(i run 19 proceses when in bf2)

doing things like that will give you more prolonged enjoyment from gaming in the long run.

try to keep youre pc cool as you can.

some info i googled as my spelling is not that good.
When you first install Windows, the registry has only the information necessary for Windows itself, but as you install more software and create documents, the registry get filled with other information. Accessing that registry can take time which can cause your machine to slow down, especially when it starts up. Sometimes, the registry gets cluttered with unnecessary data – such as listings for programs that are no longer in use. Getting rid of that extra junk can help speed up your PC.

Disk fragmentation can also slow you down. Everything stored on a PC is in files but the data that makes up each file can be in a contiguous portion of the disk or it can be scattered throughout the disk.

Windows is smart enough to figure out where the data is, but if the data is not in one place, it can take longer to access. So, if pieces of a program are scattered around the disk, you may have to wait longer to execute that program because it takes time for the disk heads to move about the platter to gather the necessary information.

The same is true when you access a data file. Having all your files in contiguous parts of the disk means your machine will run faster.

There are other things that can slow down a machine. For example, even without malicious spyware, there are programs that are loaded automatically when you start Windows and each program takes time to load and uses up memory.

The more programs that are running, the slower your machine. While some of these programs are necessary, others may not be essential, so cutting down on the number of programs which load automatically upon startup can speed up the performance of your PC.

Even the way your machine’s memory is configured can make a difference. All programs use memory but some do a better job than others of freeing up that memory when they are no longer running.
