so if the install disc is ok...then is it an unstable OS? hardware conflict, or what else would cause the MD5 errors on install? When I upgraded to the x800 I didnt upgrade the PSU ...I have an eMachine with a 300 watt psu and Powercolor specs say 300w or higher.......problem?

Ok, have you tried copying the discs to your hard drive and installing from there?

If you get errors during the transfer, consider cleaning your CDs or having them professionally cleaned.

No, I'm saying that the disks dont have the slightest mark on them and are pristine "looking" understanding that they still may be corrupted ....and asking if anything else could cause the errors......thanks for your help

Talus, I have not tried copying the disks to my c drive ...I didnt know that you could do that......noob question, but how do I do that?...thanks for your help I really appreciate it..

Find to your CD drive in Windows Explorer (Windows Key+E) usually the D:\ drive when you only have 1 hard drive installed. You'll see the Battlefield 2 disc label and icon.

Right-click the icon for your CD drive

Select Copy.

Right click on your main hard drive (e.g. C drive) and select Paste.

This will create a folder on your hard drive for you and copy all of the CD files there.

If you receive a CRC error (cyclic redundancy check) during the transfer then there is your answer. If it a bad/dirty disc and/or bad/dirty optical drive.

Tried fresh install again with cold system and again had MD5 errors ...so backed out and went with your instructions.....copied smoothly and quickly to c drive no problems.....now how do I install from there?

Ran Autorun and tried to install from c drive....got a 3rd of the way into install and again came up with MD5 Error on a file and asked to retry?....

Now what?

You may need to contact EA about this one. If you're unable to install, it may be a corrupt file.

Do you know anybody that you could borrow a BF2 CD from and try their copy?

NO...hmm talked to Best Buy, they need receipt to exchange and my son cant find it..of course....Geek squad says its very abnormal to have a bad install disk....but he agrees with you that that is the probable culprate....however heres the thing...this is the 2nd exchange disks of BF2.....happened before and we got exchange thinking disk was damaged (had slight scratches on original ....this set is pristine...they have installed fine in the past....it was the patch that i had problems with....now the Md5 errors are back........?

If you don;t want to buy new one, take your disc to friend/work and try installing it there to see if it works.

If that works, it may be a problem with your optical drive.

Talked to tech at Fry's....he thinks the stock PSU from eMachines may be underpowered/innsufficient...looks like its a 300w unit....he thought maybe that I missed a Pci-e power connector possibly....(Powercolor x8oo gto 128 doesnt seem to have...its direct snap in)....anyway, is it possible that the psu is the prob?...(or cause the md5 errors?).....reloaded Bf2 again...had 1 MD5 install error, but completed install....actually got into game at low settings...played singleplayer...changed settings to medium....seemed to run fine (gameplay)..but noticed a slight degradation of video...seemed a bit grainy? a very slight distortion to it....even at the low settings...other than that it seemed to run the game very smoothly.....closed game...came back and restarted game and got to map load and now keeps blowing back to desktop...I am buying a cx-450w Coolmax and see if it fixes...what do you think ?

Well rest in peace.....my emachine has kicked the bucket....Geek lads tell me the mobo is bad,...tried to boot got Phoenix bios beeps 1-1-1-1-1-1 pulled (Phoenix has no codes for this) out my x800 tried to boot ..same thing..(has onboard x200)....so they sent off (for 4 weeks) for repair....however...been doing a lot of reading in the last 4 days (bf2 withdrawls) and now feel they misdiagnosed.....

most of the tech diagnostic sites say the most common problem is bad ram and gave examples of symptoms of which I had almost all.....when i bought the system at Worst Buy, i had them upgrade the ram to 1gig..of which the geek dude pulled some kingston off the shelf and installed...when I go to memory sell sites they all say the the eMachine T6410 has proprietary Ram and that you have to have an exact match ...which I'm thinking I didnt have...Of course when I get it back the 1st thing i will look at is the Ram to see if they have replaced then use a memtest to see if there still is a prob...but will it tell me if its incompatible?

Talus, what do you think......?
