    Noob Needs Help....please!

DANGER!! If this problem is not resolved within 24 hours you will find this noob sitting in a corner in some institution staring at the BF2 install disk....muttering inane dribble (such as written below)

    Here is my system:

    eMachine T6410
    AMD 64 +3200 2.2ghz
    160 gig hd
    MIS rs480 socket 754
    1 gig ram
    XP Pro
    Powercolor x800 gto 128mb
    (upgraded from xpress 200 integrated)

I was only able to run BF2 on 800x600 all low settings before upgrading graphics....never able to get patches to install ...always patch failed....tried v102, 103, and finally v1.12.....each time I tried to completely uninstall game....search and kill all bf2,pb,patch files....then did disc cleanup, defragg, norton system utility uninstall ....upgraded to the x800, (after drivercleaner for ATI)(made sure refresh rate was 60htz) then upgraded driver to Catalyst 6,1.....then defragg ....I cannot get BF2 to install now ...it keeps coming up with errors with certain files...asks to retry or skip....get to end and blows out......it used to at least reinstall the game then ....then I would try to load patch...now I cant even load game......Call of Duty, Halo, all other games run fine.....anyone with the same system resolve these issues?

    I love/hate/love/hate/love/hate/love/hate this frigging game #@$#@%$#%$!!!!

Are you aware of any issues with Catalyst 6.1 for ATI?

Ok..so you followed those manual uninstall instructions carefully? If not, please go back and make sure you follow them step by painstaking step.

If you have Special Forces, then follow THESE instructions as well:

I do not use ATI cards but I don't recall seeing any major issues with 6.1. Cat drivers shouldn't interfere with the install process anyway.

I cant find any of the folders in regedit......were they successfully uninstalled? file search in windows for all files comes back with nothing....before installing the x800 I could at least install the game, but couldnt get the patches to take....now I cant even get the game to install...jeez according to a lot of review sites the x800 gto should run at least run the game fairly well or a big improvement over the integrated MOBO.......I know weve downloaded all 3 patches and uninstalled a number of times so I must be not finding all the files....suggestions?

Tried loading SF as well and it tries to load a patch 1st thing on install and failed... that was back with the on-board graphics and a while back....not even messing with SF until I can get BF2 to run..

Ok....did get BFG2 to load...and run...no patches yet....was able to get video settings as per tweaktown....1st time with the new card...and have most settings on high without antialiasing and shadowing on low.....very nice..

should I now load ver 1.03 patch or go directly to ver 1.12.? and what pacth version does BF2 SF try to run immediately on install? slould I download patch to cd? and install from there?

any suggestions...I dont want to screw it up at this point....thanks

                  Install SF (optional)
                  Then install v1.12

                  Install NO other patches.

I thought trying to patch from v1.00 to v1.12 would cause patch failures?

I am having no probs out of catalyst 6.1 and havnt heard of any, so thats probably not the issue.

                        Nope...going from v1.0 v1.12 is highly recommended

Post the contents of PATCH.ERR if you think you are having problems with patching.

OK back to square one....did a complete manual uninstall (per EA instructions)....then ran Norton uninstall utility and found more BF2 files which i uninstalled...did a refrag.....restart.....then installed game..(discs are immaculately clean).

                          disc 1 came up with an MD5 Error c:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield2\Mods\B2\Levels\Songhua Stalemate\\Server.zip retry?.

then same with Songhua Stalemate\ Client.zip retry?

                          Disc 2 Songhua Stalemate\ Client.zip retry

Disc 3 objects_clients.zip retry? "yes" then asked for disc 2 retry.."yes"
then asked for disc 3 retry "yes" then....back to disc 2 retry "yes" then....back to disc 3....retry.....kept trying to find the client.zip file.....i finally said "no" and it installed the game......is it now corrupted ? is it unpatchable at this point? should I try to reinstall the game again and see if it comes up with no errors?.....help?

You get these errors while installing?

If so it sounds like your actual disc is corrupted.

MD5 is the checksum that BF2 does to ensure the integrity of the BF2 data files.
