[MOVIE] The Dissidents proudly present: Hostile Acts

First let me say that The Dissidents have had alot of fun being part of the best gaming community in the world, that being the Batttlefield series. With that, we haven't really had a way to say thanks. Our giveback is this:

    Hostile Acts

    We hope you enjoy it.

Here are a few small screenies of the flick. It's quite large as the quality is high (279MB's) and the running time is 13:16 minutes. Dimensions are 840x524 and from what I'm told, looks very good when burnt to DVD and viewed on a big-ass TV lol.

We will have more mirrors available as they get approved.

Filefront is really slow tonight, we're in the process of uploading it to more hosting sites.

We are working the download issue as quickly as possible.

We will have a link on our own server in just a few minutes....but get it quickly as we will be forced to kill the link in a few days (bandwidth concerns).

Re: [MOVIE] The Dissidents proudly present: Hostile Acts

FINALLY finished after 2 hours, but it was worth it.

Unfortunately for you, making a really good movie means you have to put up with criticisms that other movies never get because they have far worse problems.

The problems I noticed mainly involved the camera, alot of times the camera had little 'spaz attacks' where it would quickly shift around and zoom in before returning to where it was, the problem being when it shifted it wasn't moving to focus on anything, also the camera often swung around or something when a simple cut would have been much more effective and often the camera would be going in a staright line but then it would have to adjust itself, if this occured it would have been better to go back and record it again with a better knowledge of what you would need to do.

The worst camera issue was in the Car chase, there was a small segment where the camera went haywire trying to follow the cars and was going all over the place and looked messy. (the rest of the chase was fantastic though)

Also like with a lot of movies the camera didnt get in close enough and it showed some of the action in a wide shot from rather bland angles.

I have said alot of stuff there criticising it but when you think about it, it is relatively small stuff that most people won't even care about.

But realise even though I said all that I still love the movie I jsut said that so you can do even better, the use of music, editing and well done action scenes made it a very enjoyable movie to watch, things that 99% of movies can't even do.

I hope that 'criticism' was constructive and can help you out in the future with what is already a fantastic series, I'm just glad we're starting to see some decent movies coming out now that Movie Makers and Clans are finishing their work.

Also was this done with Fraps or BL? Because if it was Fraps you must have a damn fast Computer.

Ok I looked at it and I love it. Great work! I'm not just saying that for the "fancy effects" but mostly because of the great camera work as well as the story.

I am looking forward to the next part. As always, there are things to improve but to be honest this movie doesn't need any more tweaking IMO. It's up there with other great movies.

About the chase, I guess the "messy" camera work there was intentional and gives a sense of chaos and speed. I liked it, at least compared to other BF2 movies that use mostly fixed cameras or pans to present a chase.

Ahhh, Shiny... it's made by Shiny?
Now, onto the movie review... ahhh, shiny!
I'll be back soon to edit this when I finish downloading.

EDIT: First I'm very glad to see that MEC overpower the USMC for once.
The first couple of minutes I saw before, and were still good, Then it swung into action with the car chase, my favourite scene, it was done really well and I know what you were trying to do with the camera and I know what NeoRicen is talking about. It's the classic "in your face" action shot, but it was too far away and the cuts need to be short and fast.
That is the only editing nitpick I can find though since the rest I couldn't suggest any alternative. except for the fact that some of the cuts were more suited for your trailer, you should have used them instead. :)

The camera and edit was all very natural throughout the movie, I though at first the filters were going to be overdone but it turns out you used them very efficiently and inventively.
The manual pan/crop editing was done supremely well. I've never experimented with moving the scene about that much (except for text) but it was done excellently, and just what I would have done too.
The plot involved allot of action, which some may criticize. But I would disagree, I watched "The Objective" before this and almost feel asleep (the emotional stuff doesn’t work on BF2, I find I'm laughing more) so good job you kept it exciting, and when I thought it would end, you gave us even more!
It was hard work watching that movie, I’m quite exhausted, and it is an excellent nominee to go up there with the best.
I wait in anticipation for part deux. Although, not that much anticipation mind, or I'll get dehydrated, lol.

Ive got to say that is one of the best BF2 movies I have seen so far. I liked all the radio chatter and I am so glad you went with DC voices instead of the BF2 voices it was really cool. 10/10

Awesome movie, but how did you manage to get those 2 prisoners into the crouch position? Also, I loved the ladder-scene, I know it's nothing special, but I like how you filmed it. Other thoughts, we all know that Saiga is useless, so why use it in the movie.

I also like the beginning with all the DC voices, and then the Allah talk between 2 MEC guys. Can't wait till Part Deux(Yes, XaliaS, I stole your quote)
