CTD at start up fix?

I have searched this forum to see if there was any fix to the CTD when you start the game. Where the BF2 screen comes up then it goes to a black display flickers a few times then returns to desktop without doing a thing. I had just installed the 1.12 patch all the other patches worked fine for me. The game was very playable for the period I played it. Then I took a break for 2 months, saw the new 1.12 patch, downloaded it. And installed it then went to play and nothing but the CTD. Is there a fix, or is this some mysterious bug?

My specs are:
Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9
Amd athlon 3000+ 64
2gb corsair ram (no mismatching)
6800 gt 256 pci-e
current directx
and sp2

Ok, let's try the usual fixes:

-delete contents of ..\My Documents\Battlefield 2

That will make sure your problem isn't related to a corrupted config file.

ooops i should of stated that too, I have done that also, and I have looked in the video file and nothing is wrong with it. This is a very frustrating error

Ok, so if you've COMPLETELY cleared out that folder, then it's time to tweak.

So have you tried changing the refresh rate by editing the video.con file?
e.g. VideoSettings.setResolution 1280x1024@75Hz

Also, have you tried the following tweak?:
add the following:
renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 1

to this file:
..\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Settings\VideoDefault.con

What type of monitor do you have? CRT or LCD?

it is a crt, just 15 inches haha. and i can only use 60hz

Sorry so long to get back to you...was playing BF2

So...make sure you aren't running any unncessary applications in the background (use Task Manager and close everything you see except those listed under SYSTEM and NETWORK SERVICE).

Make SURE you aren't running any refresh rate forcing applications or tweaks (including the ones included with the ForceWare drivers).

Otherwise...

#1. Have you tried installing drivers for your monitor?

#2. What graphics card drivers are you using?

When all else fails...re-install

ok i re-installed and the game started up and i joined a unpatched server. now lets see if works with the patch

Well, if the ONLY thing you're doing is installing the v1.12 patch and you get the problem again..at least we'll know the cause

ok guys sorry I didnt respond until now, no I am not using a ***** crack my game is legit. But yes the problem is from the 1.12 patch. Most definatly it is. A patch that fixes bugs, but creates one where you cant even play the game...how fun lol.
