I'm ashamed it has taken me until now to provide feedback because I was downloading the HD version within a minute of your creation of this thread.
Visually, the game has never looked better and I think you made some wonderful choices for shot composition that really took advantage of the lighting at Sharqi. The sniper shot that everyone else has commented on was a favourite of mine, too, and when I showed "The Duel" to a friend, he spoke up at that point to say how great it looked.
The sound is a testament to the value of manually adding in the effects which, although time-consuming, always leads to vastly superior results. Plus, I thought the musical choices were superb. To me, they contributed greatly to the atmosphere of each moment; adding suspense and impact where needed.
Truly, the only criticisms I can think to make are incredibly minor. I really enjoyed how it unfolded -- it reminded me of "The Loop" video released by EA -- so the content definitely appealed to me. There were a couple of violations of the 180 degree rule but that's me being overly pedantic:
The opening 25 minutes of "Saving Private Ryan" are a great example of strict adherence to that rule in an action setting. You'll notice the Allies are always moving from the left of screen to right. In your movie, during the duel itself, there were just a couple of shots that had the potential to slightly disorientate the viewer. (Not likely but still ...)
The only other thing I'd suggest is a careful manipulation of the clip speed during certain animations. When I was working on my film, I noticed that certain animations moved too fast -- for example, the 'swimming > treading water' animation -- and it became appropriate to slow the footage. At 01:42 when the sniper bullet hits, the animation of the MEC soldier being knocked down seems a bit too sudden / fast (DICE's fault, not yours), so that's where it's good to play around with clip speeds in Premiere Pro ... just for a bit more fluidity.
These terribly minor things aside, I thought the whole clip was fantastic! I really liked the way it was put together, especially the suspenseful elements. The little touches were great, too; like having the main character drop from his 'looking down the sight' stance as soon as he hears the click from behind. The way his left eye opens was such a subtle touch but meant everything within that moment.
Good thing you're now planning to release ENDGAME as a mini-series because I'm more impatient than ever to see the results. :)
Oh, I completely agree, Senap. In this movie, I don't think it's really an issue at all. I only mentioned it because I understand Neo to be a perfectionist and I know he appreciates little things of that nature.
I noticed my own movie on that site -- "La surprise de Khalid" as it's apparently known -- and then discovered yours, too. Well-worth checking out! I had to use the Google translator to understand some of the comments but it was great fun!
About the 180 degree rule, I'm aware of the rule but in this movie I didn't really pay attention to it because I didn't find it necassary and when playing it back I didn't notice a problem, but could you tell me the precise moment I did it, I'm heading off now and it would be quicker to just read your response later than to watch it over now.
But thanks for bringing it to my attention, every little thing like that is helpful in the long run.
I'm also glad you noticed how he dropped the gun on the click, this shows how good adding sounds in later can be as originally I had the sound play after he 'dropped' the gun but then I thought it would be better to have it play before because when watching it, putting the gun down does kind of look like he is responding to something and the final result was much better.
