Thanks dude, I'll look into it since my sound card sucks anyway.

Holy crap. this is the most amazing thing ive ever heard from a computer.

I could reach out and touch exactly where the sound is coming from, at all times.... freakin amazing. it made my back twinge... like i could feel just right where the noise was coming from, or my forehead twinge when the noise was up there.... wow.

Well, for anybody interested in getting something alike in BF2 - get an X-Fi. It does sound amazing in BF2. Horizontal positioning works like a charm - for instance when you are at the flag at Hotel in Karkand and USMC tank parks in the street below, you can hear it's engine sound reflected by the building across the hotel. If you are defending the flag at Sharqi and are inside TV station and a jeep passes by you can hear *exactly* if it drove behind or infront TV station. If you hear enemies approaching and chatting, you can usually tell where they are. After getting an X-Fi I switched 'english vo only' off to be able to use it effectively. It gives a small advantage, really. As a chopper pilot I can say it is easier to dogfight another chopper as if it is close you can tell pretty much exactly where it is. Vertical positioning is not too good, sometimes i hear something as 'up' even if it is at my level, but still heluva lot better than any other sound card i tried (switched to X Fi from SB Live with digital output). And yes, it works best on headphones, and I use quality Sennheiser ones. I didn't bother testing it on speakers as I use teamspeak etc. I have the 'extreme music' version, bought it for about $130, and I can say it is the best single upgrade I ever had.

p.s. The difference between Faltalty FPS and Xtreme Music/Platinum is that FPS has 64 meg onboard cache for samples. It probably pays off in terms of performance, as on ultra setting sample transfer takes most of PCI bus bandwidtch and can lead to performance drop. I don't see it now, as i have a pretty decent MB and CPU, but on my previous box, which was Athlon XP 2800+ I could not play on ultra setting.
