I think its looking really good so far. Kepp it up and you'll have a fine movie made. I think someone should make a movie like Blackhawk Down. Take a custom map similar to Karkand or Mashtuur and have one of those crashed blackhawks like in Songhua. Have it surrounded by swarming MEC forces, :ar15: and a tiny group of USMC troops. :salute: But thats getting off topic..... Well done Matt!

One of our members is actually working on a concept based on Black Hawk Down.

But glad you liked the movie!

              Scene 4 Beta is up!

Scene 5 and 6 have also been acted, and within the next few days will be released!

Scene 1, 2, and 7 will be not released publicly, but instead will only be a part of the final version.

                Scene 4-5-6 Beta Footage

I don't like how it turned out. A lot of it seems too rushed and you don't get a full picture of what's going on, especially near the end. Also some editing mistakes during the middle.

However, it's there for anyone who is interested. I'll work on v2 of these scenes, and if I like it I'll upload a high resolution version as well.

                Give me your thoughts, though!

I second that. That's a cool movie, something like the intro movie to BF2, same general idea.

My advice would be to concentrate on the final movie. Aiming to perfect every scene with help from feedback isn't going to make the perfect movie in the end. No movie is going to be 100% perfect, and I personally think that you need to take all control of your own work. Then you can learn from the feedback as a whole, rather than going piece by piece.

What you really need to get down, if you're seriously into this, (which is apparent you are) is to walk away from WMM right now. The scenes are showing allot of potential and you can't even think about what it can become without the right tools.

With action in most of the footage I would focus on the fast cuts and close up action shots first. Notice that the camera never sits still in a gunfight and your movie so far is missing this element and the actual escaping feels rather relaxed without it.

fast cuts and close up action shots
That's pretty much how it's cut right now. I don't see the camera sitting still for more than 1 or 2 seconds. I don't see how, it's it's current cut, it feels "slow" or "relaxed". I can't think of a single relaxing trait about it, but that could be just bias (who knows).

Take a look at any theoretical movie with a chase or TV series “24” is a good example of where it's over used when nothing is happening. Notice that a whole camera tends to shake quite allot when zoomed.

I don't know… it may not be for you, but it can be done well in most professional editing programs even though it wasn't recorded as jolty. It isn't a bad effect, I'm still mastering the make look more real and less annoying, but definitely going to be implementing it into my future works.

P.S. I tried a bit out as an experiment in a BF2 issues vid I did a while ago. For reference, Combustion 4 has the right tools to remove the shaky cam which is because most editors want to eliminate an unsteady hand whereas I'm reversing the effect.

Re: [Movie] "Escape from Mashtuur" - limited beta footage only

Here are some criticisms for the movie (I only looked at the criticisms since that is what you mainly want to change, unless you want to change the good stuff..):
To me it looks like most of the shots were a bit random and not really thought out as a whole. (Its this shot then this then that then this.. etc)

Also, the continuity error in the beginning when the guy gets ran over could be fixed just by fiddling around with making the slow motion scene shorter (thats if you wanted to keep the action a bit faster) or cut the next scene's beginning just a bit shorter. Now there is some cases where (intentional) continuity errors can be a good thing. For the most part, when the action is going too fast to realize that it is a continuity error. For example, the matrix revolution has a highway car chase.. The cop car slams into the barrels of water. Slow down that scene and watch which barrels explode in each scene. That was intentional, since it made the scene longer and was only picked up if you were actually looking for it.

So for the most part, see if you can experiment with capturing better camera angles. Try getting more of the action in the frame, that way you would understand where everyone was a little bit better (for example, when the tank blew up.. i had no idea that the AT guy blew it up. Try having a track of the back end of the jeep with the tank in the backround, then after he fires the missle.. switch to something like a behind the tank shot). And also, i noticed some of the angles were above the car/tank/action. Try refraining from doing shots like that since they are usually the cause of slower action and ultimately boring shots (You see everything, it reduces the suprise element if you have one). Have the camera on the level of the car for the most part.

Since this movie is about the excape of some us soliders, I would be focusing on the us humvee instead of jumping ahead and showing the tank or the people getting into position. If you do this, you will create an element of suprise, which i believe this movie would better with (you can do it without an element of suprise but its a different take).
