    Re: Sniper style of playing!

Where I snipe from depends on my Spotter and it depends on the map and my opponents, some tend to be stupid and not look up, others tend to whore nades everywhere they see muzzel flashes. Then ill be high up. However some like to run around without looking where they are going, then ill be closer to the ground or even on a hill onlooking their base exit.

I don't want to misslead the topic but don't underestimate the semi-auto guys! There is a reason SVD to be best assault support sniper rifle in the world so he has his place in BF2, and i am happy to find it there because there are few games that use SVD.

Typically I find a spot that will at least cover 2 flags even at long range I can be a big headache either from a distance from above or closer in and on the ground, I mix it up pretty well. I also love finding new unorthodox spots to snipe from....

I use the sniper as a defensive class, the SVD proves great in the SF map "Devil's Perch", at the most left flag (don't remember the name), where the big stairs are for the USN to get up, I just camp it with the SVD, they will hardly see me if I'm sitting in the hill since its a night map, and if they have goggles on....well.....they be dead by then! bah!

Both, but I choose the most awkward places to snipe usually, like places where you gotta jump, crouch, prone to crawl into the small space.

                Re: Sniper style of playing!

I play as the eyes and ears of the whole team.

Remember that one of the most important jobs of the sniper, is recon. You have the ability to spot enemies from a distance, undetected. You are able to inform your commander of enemy movements and also coordinate assaults on bases when there is no one around.

Another tactic.... (shhh... it is secret)... is to create a squad or become a squad leader as a sniper and sneek around into enemy bases undetected. Once in, your squad members can spawn on you and take the position. Since you are hidden and away from the action, you will allow your members to spawn many times to take or defend a position. Should the enemy take a base back, it should be easy to retake it since you already have a spawning point pretty close. You would know when to strike since you are the first one to know there is no one on the base.

Snipers can actually be team players if used correctly. They can protect their team mates, hunt down other snipers, spot enemies, call for artillery, deny the enemy the use of AA defenses and even vehicles, kill targets such as medics and support troops, kill commanders, defend bases, kill pilots, kill drivers, etc.

Death to the Commanders that use the Commander Hack!!!! It is pitiful if not flattering when the enemy commander wastes his artillery on a single sniper. I once avoided four artillery attacks to my person, meanwhile their team was getting raped!

                  Re: Sniper style of playing!

Please, do not use the top of buildings or cranes. That makes you a really easy target for these reasons:

                  1) You are no longer camouflaged
                  2) You are silhouetting yourself against the skyline
                  3) You have no where to go should you be spotted.

The most important skill of a sniper is attention to detail. If something does not look right... is is not right!

                    Re: Sniper style of playing!

I tend to vary depending on the situation but I quite like roofs even if I don't have a ghile suit that looks like an air conditioning vent :) Law of averages says you'll take down more opposition as you'll only die once, once you're killed/run out of ammo find another spot. I once spent 15 minutes sniping the carrier on Dragon Valley, it was their own fault as they were all chopper whores! It actually helped the team a lot, they had better pilots and were giving us a hard time with their choppers - at one point both attack choppers spent 5 minutes strafing the trees looking for me. Taking the choppers out of the main battle for that long probably swung the round for us.

Snipers should definitely spot everything, there's many a time I've saved a teammate by spotting the guy who's sneaking round the wall to them - even if I don't kill them they at least know where they are. Spotting the APC's and boats coming in on Clean Sweep is really effective too..almost like having another UAV.

Finally killed an opposition sniper with a claymore the other day - if you're a bit bored or fed up with BF2 I recommend it! It's the funniest thing I've done in the game and had me in stitches for ages. If you happen to see an opposition sniper resist the temptation to knife them and instead place a claymore behinde them. Then take a few steps back, make sure you have a good view and shoot them once in the foot with your pistol and wait for them to twitch...:)

Lately I have been camping on rooftops, particularly sharqi and mashtuur. My favorite thing to do as a sniper though is assault flags. It is alot more difficult, but I think it makes you a better sniper and also gives you alot of pistol experience.

i love to be an "assult" sniper on maps like karkand, people go prone and start poping shots my way = headshot then get in close and the pistol becomes my best friend

1 time i had an unbeliveable streak of kills w my pistol in the main allyway leading into the hotel, something like 8 in a row they never saw it comin

The Ghillie suit is really confusing.

I remember shooting side by side an enemy sniper without even realizing it. We were both using the M95 so there were no clues as to our nationalities. We "worked together" for about ten minutes until I realized his name was in RED. I decided to pull my gun and shoot him once.... he did not even react. I just killed him and he even complained to me why should I hurt a team mate!!!!!! Then he realized I was not in his team.... just too funny!!!

Use that to your advantage since most people just rely on being lucky while trying to find snipers. They will just scan an area until a RED name pops up, instead of making careful observations about the enemy's equipment and camouflage.

Cranes can be effective just by running from one end to the other. Also parachuting off of cranes into hard to reach places is fun. Either way you do it, nothing is more relaxing after a long day of work than placing the enemies head into your crosshairs and squeezing off a round.
