Crashing at 62% Load

I just got Battlefield 2: Special Forces off the EA download section, it was a smooth download, install and patching (1.12) but I ran into a problem when I tried to load any map. It would get to 62%, the point where it loads "Geometries" and then the whole game would crash to the desktop without any sort of error.

Yes I did search for such another problem many times but nothing came up that was even the least bit relevant so dont even bother chiding me out for it.

Reinstall without uninstalling and choose "modify" or "fix". Since it's happening with the same files, it's an install problem. good luck.

Well just realised this happens with BF2 as well and THAT worked perfectly before I repatched it...

Hi there,
I also get this problem once installing Special forces. If you change the fullscreen 1 to fullscreen 0 on the launch icon, you will get an error message. Mine is this...

I have been looking everywhere for a fix for this, but cannot find anything. If you figure out how to fix this please let me know. Some people have success by reentering their BF2 cd key. (You do this by running the cd key program under support) and then reinstalling their patches.

Wierd file location string. Is that where you downloaded the expansion file to?

Sry but I fail to see how CAUSING another error will help me fix this one.

Also, I can't relaly repair it because the game is installed from theh EA downloader so I don't know where the file is. Does anybody know the number for EA support Im gonna call.

Ok here is as much as I can explain:

I had recieved Battlefield 2 with my eVGA 7800GTX OEM Version and installed it and it worked perfectly.

I recently had the idea to purchase BF2: Special Forces off EA's new Downloader service.

I purchased the game and installed it and the install went smoothly. I went to try and load a map and during the loading it was "optimizing my shaders". At 62% while "Loading Geomtries" it crashed to my desktop without any warning or error messages.

It was suggested that I resintall the game. I did. It was suggested that I download the 1.12 patch. I did, but recieved a "Patching Failed" error instead of a completion notice. None of these have helped my problem yet. I wrote a letter to EA telling them the problem and await an answer.

My computer setup is as such:

Asus A8N-E
eVGA GeForce 7800GTX
Maxtor 250GB IDE HDD
Lite-On DVD+-RW (x2)
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ Dual Manchester Core Processor
1GB (2x512) DDR 400 PC3200 RAM

hmm patching failed eh.

odd, id say reinstall. really, battlefield has literally stopped working for no reason, and crashed from startup more than once when i havent changed anything.

reinstalling always fixes it though.

ROFL Nice Name and yeah Im going to uninstall both games, resintall BF2, then SF, then, If they work, patch both.

Ok I uninstalled both games. installed BF2, restarted and then tried to install BF2: SF and when it gets to the part n the install when it automatically "Ptches BF2 to version 1.1" it fails patching, WTFS? Is it becasue my BF2 version is already 1.12 that it cant patch it?

I'm going to COMPLETELY uninstall both games, can somebody give me a checklist or order to reinstall ecah game in.

It's not causing another error, it will only display your original error message while not in fullscreen mode.

As for reinstalling:

Install BF2 > Install SF > Patch to 1.12

but part of installing BF2: SF is patching and that fails and causes the installation to stop.
