As long as there are clans and competitions going on, it will last awhile. These are the kinds of players that keep FPS games going for a long time.

Look at the online FPS games that don't last very long, and compare those to the ones that do, and then look at the number of leagues and competitions available and the number of clans/people taking part.

Most likely that will be the difference between them.


Just look at CS. The most popular online game for a great long time, is an old MOD. Just when we thought it would die out due to the old graphics, they were spruced up a bit and to this day tards everywhere love it.

i got bored with it after putting in over 400 hours. played about two hours of SF and didn't like the performance decrease. and now that there are two booster packs coming AND a good patch, i'm excited to play again and will definitely fire it up once the patch is out.

The huge mistake done by the developers and publishers was including the global rank system. Without this system, BF2 would have been just as good as BF1942. Without the mods (especially Forgotten Hope 2) this game is nothing.

I love BF2, sometimes I get a little bored and play some other games but when I get bored I play a round of BF2 and always have a great time. Can't wait for the mods (hope my crappy pc can handle them)

I'v already got bored twice, then gone back and loved it!!!
Try it sometime, Stop playing for like two weeks if your getting bored/annoyed, and play something else (I played CoD2) then go back and you'll see how amazing this game is!

I came back to BF2 a few weeks ago and already Im growing tired of it. Having to play on Karkand just to rank up within this year, dealing with bunny hopping newb tubing, c4 chucking kids I mean it seriously just isn't fun. Sometimes it is, sometimes there is a good game, but really its just getting tiresome. Maybe its because Im trying to rank up before the patch comes out. This is probably whats got me frustrated. Playing on karkand, (again so I can get some decent points), I get so tired of having an apc shooting down the alley you spawn in, artillery coming down on you or some guy chucking c4 into your squad and hopping away, or some other idiot who just point blank grenades you taking out themselves and their teammates.

I've been saying this for a couple weeks now.
There will come a time (I'm thinking a year or so) where a good portion of the core BF community (The people who actually play the game for fun and not just for points to "See their name in light) will move on to some of the good Mods.

At some point the ranking system is not going to matter to a lot of people. It's new/different content that is going to be the driving force behind BF2.
I know I will be checking out PoE2 when it comes out. Purely playing for the fun of it and to hell with the stats.

Some of you will say that playing the mods is not the same as playing BF2 and they are right to a point. What the mods will do (If they are good) is prolong the life of the BF2 'Box' because you need it to play the mods.
IF the mods are REALLY good, it might even make people buy the core game JUST to play the mods. Once again not caring about stats.

Online games tend to live longer because of that. Every new battle is different from the last, but the addition of new boosters also increases its lifespan.

At lot longer once the mods appear, no doubt up until the release of BF3.

I have very mixed results with SF i think it depends on the server some servers i lag (but still have a low ping about 20) othere servers with the exact same map size and map play perfectly normal and are no promlem at all.

Anyway back on subject i can see myself playing this game daily untill BF3 comes out weather im playing a MOD or one of the excellent custom maps (check out MAPPACK 3 and join the totalBF2 server 64.27.18.176:16567). As somone else just said its the new content that will drive this game in the end so i think once this game hits 18 months + the MODS willl totaly take over.

I certainly play a lot less now, as I have always been a RPG player really.. but BF2 is good by me anyday. It's about moderation, if you play 5 hours a day, 6 days a week.. what do you expect? "OMG bf2 is sooo boring now"
