Will another graphic card improve my gaming experience

I'm a noob on this subject so please help me out without info on benchmarks and so. I just want a simple answer i can understand.

I run a pentium 4 3Ghz with 1,5 Gig ram. My current graphic card is a Radeon 9600xt-4 256Mb.

I'm just wondering. Will a better graphic card really improve my gaming experience. It's fine as it is but i have no clue what to expect from a better card.

A bit off topic, my wife works with pinnacle a lot and maybe a better card will also improve the performence of that program.

ok a new card will definately improve your gamingexperience but it's random... i hear stories from people that have got by example a 7800 gtx and the game doesnt run smooth... so if you want to buy a videocard only for the game go for one of the geforce6800 versions because bf2 has created for that chip...

Do yu really want the better graphics? Ive got a 128MB ati 9700 and im fine with it, most of my setting are on low or medium and i usualy OC my card for a little boost out of it.

But if you want to spend a few hundred dollars for a new card the sure id say do it.

Can't you just set the settings to high in single player. Your framerate will drop through the floor, but at least you'll get an idea of how it will look.

I doubt whether pinnacle will benefit. Not using it myself, but I don't think it uses a lot of 3D.

Go to tomshardware.com or gamespot.com and look at their video card comparisons. Gamespot even evaluated how BF2 performs with various hardware upgrades. The answers you get on forums like this are usually just user subjective perceptions. Not totally useless, but not very conclusive either.

Just get a new vid card with 256 MB on it. For Nvidia, which I recommend a 6600GT or above. For Nvidia a x800gto or above. It will insanely increase your fps and settings.

Yes two video cards will greatly improve graphics performance. i use Nvidia's 7800gtx's in SLI. nice and smooth. the only choppiness i get is from Comcast.

Good point! A lot of forum opinions will be just that; opinions - and they're often biased. It can be hard to distinguish between the guys who knows what they talk about and the boons that just spew out opinions as facts.

I would advice you to stay away from Tomshardware, they've deteriorated lately (actually, for a while) and are rather biased. www.anandtech.com is a much more trustworthy hardware site. Go there and do some reading, that way you'll learn a thing or two and can probably make the decision yourself :)

Dude if you going to attempt to give advice, please learn what you are talking about. The game was not specificly created for the 6800 chipset. And there is no reason to get a 6800gt over a 7800 series card, other than price. Anyone who has poor performance with a 7800 series card just has something mis-configured, it has nothing to do with the card.

Mate thats total dip ****. My 7800Gtx pawns my 6800GT do your homework, id buy the 7800GTX its an amaizing card!

Maybe true, but it not a bad assumption to make that during the development cycle of bf2 the 6800 was the test card. So you can say it was made for the 6800. It does not mean it runs best on 6800, it means the 6800 should be good enough if you assume that's what they tested it with.

But you didn't want to consider that explanation, did you ...
