I personally use ATi's Catalyst Cleaner. I never trust third party apps OR cards. Down with Sapphire, Powercolor etc.

well the cards made by different manufacturers are ok. but third party apps definitely cause problems sometimes.

now the thing is i dont even know which part is going wrong. WMP tells me the file type is not supported while obviously it is supported. i have the right codecs and been using them for years. even if DivX codec is screwed, how about MPEG? the damn thing doesnt even play mpeg files.

Well this is the codec that i used for my Windows media 10 http://www.divxmovies.com/codec/

It works fine. Maybe try reinstalling it?

yea man i have DivX installed. i even updated it a while ago in hoping of resolving the issue.

ok I restored the system back to 4 AM. and everything started working fine. then i uninstalled the ATi drivers again, and also i still used driver cleaner to remove the remaining files, before i reinstalled Catalyst 6.1. however this time, i didnt run CAB Cleaner. I knew it was pretty fishy when the first time I was using it. I dont feel comfortable when a third party program is making changes in my driver.cab. and now it seems i was right. after i re-do everything except for running that CAB cleaner, my videos are being played like a charm on WMP just like before.

so, to the ppl who's going to use driver cleaner, my suggestion is, do NOT run cab cleaner. it could just be me and my settings that make cab cleaner cause certain problems, but cab cleaner definitely does cause issues in some situations. if you are not sure about it, dont run it. not to mention that cab cleaner even changed my 5.1 surround setting to the normal desktop speakers for some reason.

I never use DriverCleaner. Sure, it may be a good app, but i prefer ATi's Cat cleaner.

yea thanks, dude, i thought maybe I would be needing to reinstall the whole system if the restore didnt work.

i'll take a look at that cat cleaner next time. :)

but all in all it's ATi's fault lol... why the hell do u need to clear every single file and registry for updating a driver. :p

To ALL the 9800 pro 128MB users:

does ur game crash alot randomly?

Haven't really had any random crashes. I am using catalyst control center version 1.2.2172.2074 (I think it was the lastest download that was availibe before the new 6.1 drivers). Not sure about installing the new ones when the old one is working fine (not currently running SF). What about the rest of the 9800 pro 128mb users.... Any problems with the new drivers??

ATI has a Catalyst Cleaner??? This is a first that i have known this. DriverCleaner has always been a great software software and ATI recommends it.

Cat Uninstall is pretty crap and sloppily made, I get errors with it sometimes, it does exactly what Driver Cleaner does really.

Maybe some how your codecs were knocked out if you want a player that plays near EVERYTHING get VLC player

Thats what it can play i realy like having the ability to play bin & cue files.

And for anything that it cant play get the Ace megacodec pack (just install the default stuff you dont need the rest and make BSplayer your default player)

There isnt a thing i have ever ecountered on the net that i cant play with these codecs running on my machine.

P.S. if you have any other codec packs installed you might need to remove them as you could get a conflict which will cause problems.

I had these and BF2 run worse than on the drivers b4 these ones:cry:

Even if you did use them... you probably don't know how to properly un-install/install the new drivers.
