Computer Locks Up w/repeating sound

like the title says, while i am playing bf2 and even when im not or on the internet or anything basically the computer will freeze up and whatever sound that was playing at the same time will keep repeating and its only like 1-2secs long fragment then i have to trun off my computer so any suggestions would be great and much appreciated although i know this doesnt relate to bf2 i know you guys are pretty much experts at Comps so though i'd give it a try but i have tried updating my drivers for my vid card and tried the latest chipset drivers which are nForce2 drivers for the mobo here are my specs

AMD Athlon 2800+ 2.1GHz
1.5GB of DDR RAM
ATI X850XT AGP
40GB Maxtor HD
Gigabyte K7 mobo #GA-7N400

i've pretty much tried everythig from the latest drivers for video card to mobo chipset drivers to making sure everything was in place and this used to happen like 4 months ago then i fixed the problem by Resetting the CMOS and then the computer worked fine for the longest time then i accidently uninstalled the nvidia nForce drivers from the control panel and that's when my X850 wasn't being read so i reinstalled the nForce drivers cause i needed the SM BUS thingy from the nForce to see that i had a card in there and i went and installed the latest drivers again and now whenever im on my COMPUTER for like 2hrs i'll just freeze and have that repeating sound i have tried different versions of nForce and still Nothing.......PLEASE HELP!!!

yeh thats part of my issue locks up bad with sound repeating especially at the start, doesnt usually crash though if I wait awhile it kicks back in

some maps worse than others

yeah it sucks when your comp crashes cause of the fact that you lose pretty much everything that you earned by playing eg. global points but does anyone have a SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM!!!

What sound settings are you using in-game? I'm assuming you're both using on-board audio...

im using on-board audio which is Realtek AC 97' audio but i never had this problem with bf2 before i uninstalled those nvidia drivers cause bf2 ran on my X850 for about 3 three weeks without a hitch and now all of a sudden it starts doing this to me but like i said before it'll do this to me EVEN when im not in bf2 like last night i was on my space and it did it to me Froze with a Song repeating in the background

lol I just started a thread almost EXACTLY like this, in hardware but my problem is a tiny bit different. What mine does is in the start of gaming on any map in bf2, my computer will repeat the sound and the game will freeze for maybe a second at most, then play normally.

Thanks for the reply but that didnt help me because MY WHOLE SYSTEM freezes no matter what im doing and it doesnt last a SECOND it would go on for FOREVER!!! so someone plz help!!!!

Well, I had the same problem once. My CPU wasn't getting enough power since I was OCing it by about 200mhz. I pushed the voltage up a tad and it straightened out. If you're not OCing, that might not be your problem though.

I would say chipset drivers or iono, something, it is most likely a CPU or ram problem.

thanks again for the reply but i used to OC my CPU and now i dont anymore and now it still locks up but im pretty sure my cpu and ram are fine but it's mostlikely the CHipset Drivers but last night i went and installed the Catalyst 5.13 drivers and it locks up but then i tried the 5.12 and i have only been on my computer for alittle while...so im going to let it run for a couple of more hours and see what happens then i'll update you guys but if it doesnt im going to try a different set of chipset drivers...atleast a different version

Use the Software mode and Medium audio options.

If you get desperate, start DXDiag (Start->Run->DXDiag) and go to the sound tab and slowly reduce the sound acceleration slider one step at a time until the problem goes away.

thanks for the suggestion i will try taking down that slide and see what happens but i'll probably take alwhile since my comp only freezes 2-4hr time period

its most likely a problem with your motherboard or cpu or ram or who knows. try to find some thing that could be wrong and we move on from there. I mean, one day it happened to me randomly, and I found out by luck that it was my ethernet drivers.
