Looks promising, but i'll stick with the bf2 in the hand rather than the quake in the bush.

so having objectives make things better? what about CS? most of the time nobody goes for the objective...someone drops the bomb, cant find it, oh well, no big deal.....hostages? oh ya, forgot they exist!

Re: 6 reasons to stop playing BF2 once Quake Wars is released

I have been following QW and it does look good, but even the developers said the maps in QW will be substantially smaller than the BF2 maps. How small substatial is I wouldn't care to guess. They also state that it will not playout like a BF2 map. In QW you'll have to take bases sequentially, like in the game Planetside, to win the map. So that means before you can take the second base or race behind enemy lines to take their back bases you'll have to cap them in order as they appear on the map.

What does that mean for us players. It means we'll have our work cut out for us to take a base. In the game of PS it can take hours and even days for one side to take a continent. I have participated in battles in Planetside that have lasted 3 days in real life. You'd sign off, come back the next day and they'd still be battling it out on the same continent for the same base. LOL! The worst continent/planet for this kind of thing to happen was Cyssor. OMG we would get three-way battles going and bases would switch back and forth. You'd be ordered to help take a base on one flank, then secure it, then rush back over to the main lines to hold back a massive counterstrike, then be called to go and hold off a platoon who was trying to flank your side. It was crazy. Lots of fun though.

Splash Damage have said that the maps are geared towards 32 players, but they are not enforcing any hard limit on the number of players that can connect, that will be for admins to decide. I am willing to bet that you wont have to wait too long before the community starts releasing 64 player maps.

Also I think you are overstating the difficulty of taking the other teams base when objectives are sequential. If you have played UT2004 onslaught you would realize that this helps to give the game direction and forces players to act like a team rather than running around doing their own things. That was the whole idea behind the supply lines game mode before DICE/EA cut it from the game (to be included in an expansion at a later date of course )

Do you honestly think it will be any better in QW? Like somehow all the lamers will suddenly deside that life is too short to spend so much time being lame?
                      Yeah... riiiiiiiight.
Actually, it might be a bit better in terms of players simply because it will be more limited. Do deep game mechanics for people to foul up.
                      Pong, anyone?

I'm sorry, I just can't stand Id games anymore. They haven't done anything new or innovative since Wolfenstin 3D (pre-Doom). Carmack's ego as a coder blinds him the the fact that he can't design a game... he can only re-hash.

So I'll take a pass, thanks.

                      Oh!
#9 You'll finally have a PC game that you and your retarded pet monkey can both enjoy!

If they don't implement a squad system like BF2 with voice coms I think it will pretty much be dead in the water, I'm not too keen on the extreme twitch aspect of a quake game either, granted Enemy Territory was a very fun game, for a WWII type multiplayer game.

I think UT2007 is Quake Wars biggest competition, and if you think you'll get away with playing either game without the latest cutting edge video card and fast CPU with atleast two gigs, you need to take a reality pill.

                          8. Another company to treat like it's murdered your family, and to continually accuse of being unsupportive of its community even after it gave you everything you ask for except an infinite number of free maps simply because you have the inability to detach yourself from any notion that pops into your head.

                          9. Another game for people to "leave" only to come back later and then say "OMFG I FORGOT THIS GAME WAS TEH SUX!!@ LETME JEST PLY IT $ ONE MORE WEAK TO REMIND MYSEFL AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" every two weeks or so.

My guess is all older online FPS games had posts like this saying "6 reasons not to play [insert online FPS] once Battlefield 2 comes out".
