    Chinese assault rifles

I'm gonna bring this up again.
The Chinese standard assault rifle shouldn't be the AK-47. I'm not complaining about the gameplay performance at all, but just the implication of the state of the PLA. No one in the PLA uses the AK-47 anymore, Type 81 has been the standard issue rifle for two decades. The PLA otherwise have quite advanced weapons in this game such as Type 98 MBT, QBZ97 carbine, Z-10 Attack Helo etc. Either change it to Type 81, or to Type 95 like in the console version.

    But I like my AK47
The sound dosnt seem realistic though, sounds like plastic toy gun.

A lot of PLA still use AK47, general infantry mostly, which is what assult class is.
Oh and China's AK47 arent always called AK47, its just renamed, thats all.

Yeah, the game doesn't exactly pride itself on realistic armory selection.

In SF, for example, there are Middle Eastern and Chechen guerillas with AK-101s, Bizons, and Saigas. Not to mention UAVs, Satellites, and Artillery.

All I know is that the old AK-47 does the job for me. Plus it adds a nice pinch of commi idealism fighting, and a much needed classic touch.

          Re: Chinese assault rifles

The Type-81 is actually very close to the MEC's Ak-101 so there wouldn't have been much distinction.
I like the AK-47, simply because I find Kalasjnikovs pretty damn cool.
Except I would have given the AK47 to the MEC and the 101 to the PLA, just because Kalasjnikovs in a modern day setting scream "Insurgents in Africa!" for me.

I don't really like having the MEC and China, as they both have heavy russian influences(and why the hell they both use the French Eryx, I have no clue). I think they should have kept china mostly the way it is, but given the MEC much more european equipment(I'm sure the MEC would have liked the prospect of the tropical LeClercs, that the UAE already has irl, as well as many other French vehicles, german weapons, etc). It would have been cool to give them Sig 552's for their assault rifles, etc. For those of you who want to say how this wouldn't make sense in the story, remember that russia is at least friendly to america in this war, as it lets american forces travel through russia to attack china, so if russia is friendly and a supplier of MEC, why can't Europe be?

Everybody uses the AK, hell russia still does, North korea, everybody. They made billions of them, and they're still making them. Cheap, easy and realiable, perfect for a the biggest populous on the earth. Like the us has facy abhrams, but they also have older tanks too, hell in desert storm the USMC used M60's

China is going to run out of water by 2030 according to the UN and you expect these guys to field a 100% modernized army?(Modern in the sense of a few years ago)

They didn't make Billions of AK's, as there aren't even a billion guns in existance of all types atm. Most nations either use evolved versions of the kalishnakov design, or just different weapons. China used the Type 56 long ago, but you would only expect to see it in its militia's/national guard equivilent/REMF's(and I would be fine with an engineer getting one, as long as they balanced it out).

The USMC used an upgraded version of the M-60 in the gulf war, at the most thirty years after its design was being used(and in 1961, not even really). Fourty years later, I don't believe anybody in the US military uses the Patton(coming from someone with experience in armour, being a bradley crewman for a time...). This is fourty years after they started using the patton, twenty after they started using the abrams.

China used the Type 56 in the sixties, possibly the late fifties too. However, they also used alot of their version of the SKS. I think that since they are portraying more modern troops, ones using Type 89's and J-10's, they shouldn't be accompanied by infantry using Type 56's. Thats like mixing NG M113's, army M1a2's, and Air Force F-22's. Just wierd.

i think it would be neat to see. No offense to anyone out there, but I am surprised the MEC use the AK 101...really they should be using the AK-47...seeing how there are much more of those in the world and at much cheaper prices

The Eyrx has been exported to certain nations in the Middle East. exact number of such units sent is unknown.

Why in the world would the MEC use AK-47's? The game portray's them as actually being a decently strong coalition of nations. If they used a kalishnakov line, it would most likely be AK-74's, or one of the good clones, like polish clones. These aren't being represented as third world countries. I would expect them to use either H&K weapons, or more modern russian weapons, as their mainstays.

Yeah just imagine it. Rebels with a machete, no pistol, no armour, a homemade dodgy AK-47, one magazine of ammo (or maybe 20 rounds) and a grenade for every third guy. It wouldn't be much fun to play as but it would be heaps of fun mowing down the waves of them. Guess thats why we have single player games. :)

Weapon unlocks killed any realism that was left in the team weaponary anyway. Insugents with G36Cs, way to go!

Around 90 - 110 million AK-47's have been produced so far, and around 85 million are in existence.
