So now you have to resort to personal attacks because someone doesn't happen to agree with the tired old mantra of EA sucks?

Far too many people on this board jump on that bandwagon (read 3/4 of the posts) while completely ignoring the fact that thousands of us play these games with zero problems.

No game is perfect, but the evidence is irrefutable that these games work and work well for the majority of players.

First up sorry for resorting to a personal attack. I was in a bad mood and you weren't really paying attention to my logical arguments.

No where in any of my posts do I say that EA suck. I own quite a few EA games and I'm very happy with most of them inlcuding BF2. So don't assume that I am an EA basher.

Also I know that thousands of people play SF without any problems but hundreds of people are having problems and that is much higher than usual for a game.

There are problems with SF as the many people complaining on these forums (and the steadily declining number of SF players) will attest and just because you aren't having them it doesn't mean that no one else is. The many people out there that have no problems with any game other than SF is proof that SF has some issues with bad coding.

If it was just me I would put it down to bad luck that some sort of conflict on my computer is causing problems. But it isn't just me, it isn't just a handful of players it is signigicant number and it is made more frustrating by people like you saying that there are no problems and we should quit bitching about it.

SF works fine for me, no lag at all. As Cyriptic Ghost said warlord and Gator work fine, never had any problems with them. I think most of the time people just have their setting set to high for their system.

Re: Solution to Special Forces problems.

I have a 2400 AMD 1.5 G ram and a Radeon 9800 pro 128Mb as well. I don't have many problems running it. It seems to lag a little bit every now and then but not long, when someone on the server is pinging the hell out of the server with a 150 or higher ping. My ping never gets over 100 unless my roommate is playing WOW on his computer.

Would someone else's high ping on the server be a problem? Maybe 2 or 3 people pinging at 150 or higher at the same time? I dunno. That seem,s to be the only time I have problems. But what do I know?

Re: Solution to Special Forces problems.

EA aren't going to admit that they paid for buggy code, DIce aren't going to admit that they provided buggy code and the end user (you and me) aren't going to admit that our rigs aren't upto the job.

My rig isn't anywhere a top performer.
                  Athlon64 3200 Socket 754
                  1GB DDR400
                  Sapphire Radeon Atlantis 9600
                  No overclocking mods as yet

The game gets jumpy on Iron Gator and thats about it as far as I know, I've not played SF long enough to find a server / map where I can get a bloody chopper to see if I get that problem.

My opinion (and it is only that, an opinion) is that the code is not perfect and some certain setups seem to have more issues with the game than others. If you're one of the unlucky ones who has trouble, read the forums and try some of the suggestions. If they dont work undo the changes and try something else.

There's no point in constantly going round in circles with arguaments about how bad EA and DIce are (they've probably done the best they can), just play the game and enjoy it the best you can or put it in the bin, ebay it or give it to a mate. He may have more luck than you.

i have a pretty poor rig atm, i have a P4 3.0, 1.5gig 400 ddr ram ,saphire x300 pci express vid card i found sf did lag the **** out of my comp but all i had to do was turn some settings from medium to low and it started to work fine , i know some people cant handle playing unless there systems run at 100% gamin capacity as some others have said before , but sometimes sacrafices have to be made, now i aint saying that it is everyones pc's , but it was the problem for me, now i never have lag again, thats my 2 cents

Re: Solution to Special Forces problems.

                      I run vanilla at all high settings at 1600x1200 with a PM 1.86ghz, 2gb 533mhz ddr2 4200 ram, nvidia geforce 6800 go.

I tried to run SF with those settings and every 2 minutes the game would lock up (no hard drive paging so not a ram issue). I then lowered the settings to all medium w/ 2x antialiasing and the resolution to 1024x768 game runs for about 5 minutes then locks up again.

By lock up I mean freezes for a few seconds then comes back and goes through any of the actions I pressed while it was frozen.

I then lowered all the lighting settings to low and kept everything else at medium and 2x antialiasing. I still have issues with it locking up but they only occur about once evry 20 minutes now.

Based on everything I've gone through with my computer just to get it playable I have a strong feeling its how the game is coded and not my computer.

Re: Solution to Special Forces problems.

If you want it to run well, just turn the lightning to low/off and lower your texture detail. The lightning is a huge problem with the lag especially on Warlord. That outta clear up any and all lag you have. However, the game will look like absolute crap with no lightning as if it were a game from the late 90's/early 2000's and not how it should be.

Obviously most people aren't gonna be having problems when they run everything at low settings or low resolutions as some people are showing in this thread, heh. The point is that we should be able to run SF with all maxxed out settings how it's meant to be played and how our systems currently can run vanilla BF2 at max settings. SF is worse because of all the buildings and indoors which makes for tons more shadows. That's one of the problems. Turn the lightnings off and it'll be all good, but look like crap, unfortunately. It feels like I'm playing Team Fortress or something, lol.

Re: Solution to Special Forces problems.

I recently bought SF. I experience the same problems many have mentioned. I have P4 3.0- 800Mhz FSB- 1 gig ddr400- Sata HD - 9800pro 8x 256. I run vanilla BF2 at meduim settings, and it runs perfectly. I started my first try with SF on meduim, and lagged every 2-3 seconds for at least 1-2 seconds. :hmm: As I changed the settings, I ended up with everything as low as it could possibly go. I still experience too much lag to play this mod. It is unbearable, but I got it on sale for 20USD.

I ahve tried every fix I could dig up, and nothing will let this game run good enough to play. I can't wait to try it out.

Re: Solution to Special Forces problems.

Here are some things you people who are having problems can try:

1). Defrag. Run Defrag on your system drive (C:\ drive), and if you happen to have another partition that you installed BF2 in, defrag that as well.

2). Firewall. Make sure it's configured appropriately. I had a hell of a time with BF2 for a while until I found out my firewall wasn't setup correctly. As a test, drop your firewall (if it's the software kind) and fire up the game and see if it still plays like crap.

3). Drivers. Get the latest drivers for your video card and chipset.

4). Background apps. All that anti-virus, anti-spyware, instant messaging, pop-up blocker, ad nauseum **** you have running in the background, kill it.

5). Internet connection. Make sure you and/or your roommate isn't downloading tremendous amounts of pr0n or whatever while you're trying to play. If someone on your connection is running BitTorrent, kill it before you try and play.

6). Single player? Try setting up a local server and seeing if the game still runs like crap. If not, it may be an issue with your internet connection.

7). Ping isn't everything. Some servers just can't run the game very well, regardless of what the ping says. Granted, this shouldn't be an issue with most ranked servers, but if you're trying to play on non-ranked, it may be some Joe Shmoe who thinks his DSL connection can handle running a 32 man BF2 server.

Personally, I have a machine dedicated to just games, 3700+ Athlon 64, 2GB RAM, 7800GT and a dedicated Raptor drive for my game installs, and both vanilla BF2 and BF2:SF run like butter (in fact, I don't get these weird graphics flickers in BF2:SF that I do in BF2).
