Loose connection to every server after a few min. of gameplay

Every single server, after a little bit, I will randomly loose connection to it. I am on a router, but this has NEVER happened before. It all the sudden started. Its on SF and vanilla BF2. Every other game works fine, never looses conection. So it has to be with this game.

    Any help please?

i have a magical mushroom that solves all BF2 problems instantly, but you need to pay me 10 million for it because thats how much EA has offered.

could be several problems... To find out if your actualy losing connection to the web or game server I recomend the following.

              click start then run

              type in ping totalbf2.com -t
              and hit enter

a dos screen will come up and start pinging totalbf2.com

              let it keep going

load up your game and play untill you crash. Exit back to WIN and look thru the dos window to see if at any time you droped connection for more than three ping cycles in a row.

If you did it could be your line. If not it may be punkpuster sending its files back and forth. (which by the way happens by default every twenty seconds.

Thier is a fix to change punkpuster to only send once every five minutes..

Hahah, my uncle did that today with me. No unordinary things happened when I lost connection to server, the web still is up, and like I said, its only this game. 3% packet loss on a router BTW.

Any other ideas besides the punkbuster thing?

Re: Loose connection to every server after a few min. of gameplay

Don't dismiss punkpuster as not the issue. Its a know lag-a-holik. If you would like to try the fix. which is posted on thier support page..

As far as other things I am asuming your runing cable right to your PC? YOU ARE NOT ON WIRELESS RIGHT? If so junk it and go hardwired thats 90 percent of your problem right thier. 3 percent packet loss? Sounds like WI-FI to me... If you search this forum I wrote alittle artical on WI-FI and problems with it for gaming you might run into...

                  Tip 1:

Reducing the number of punkbuster hard drive checks

                  How does this work?

Punkbuster, as you probably know, is the anti cheating software which comes bundled with BF2 and is required to play on all ranked servers and most public servers. Punkbuster scans your hard-drive for problems every 20 seconds. As you may have guessed, this causes a lot of lag. What we are going to do is to increase the amount of time in between punkbuster checks to 500 seconds (the maximum amount so don't try anything higher lol). By the way, in case you were worried, this is 100% safe with punkbuster, and will NOT cause any problems with Punkbuster thinking you are a cheater. Punkbuster even recommends this on their website.

                  How do you do it?

Step 1: Ok, the first step is very simple, join any BF2 online server which is running punkbuster, preferably a ranked one.

Step 2: Once you are in, and respawned somewhere, press the ` key. This key is located on most keyboards above the tab key and to the left of the 1 key

Step 3: Once you have pressed this, a large white box should drop down with a load of text in it. Type "pb_sleep 500" (without the quotation marks) and hit the enter key

Step 4: Once you have done this, make sure the box is still up and type pb_writecfg to save your settings

I will try that tommorow snipe. But yes, I AM WIRELESS. The router is plugged to a 4MB/256KB cable connection down the hall. Whats weird is that the game has always worked fine, until we upgraded to the 4MB-down connection, from a 256KB-down connection. Thanks for the help so far!

Do you have a dual core processor?

If yes, download WinLauncher and set the affinity to processor 2.

I doubt very much he has a dual core CPU.. So this is not a fix for him.

                            Heh, yes I DO have a dual-core CPU--- DualCore AMD Athlon 64 X2, 2200 MHz (11 x 200) 4400+. You need to stop assuming, SNIPE. :)

That ppieewhatever.exe fixed it, no disconnects at all yet :) Thanks
