My 6800GT, a BIG disappointment. Need some advice!

My system specs are below on my sig....just got this card last week. Running on 81.98 drivers and is also OC'd using coolbits. Im gettings SH1T FPS and i mean TOTAL crap in strike at karkand. Im playing on this server thats 24/7 strike and is always at 64 players full. My problem is my fps drops to around 20 or BELOW!!!! What gives!? In intense firefights it drops to 20 fps but when out of combat my fps is at like 50-60. My settings are on MEDIUM EVERTHING 2x AA! Why on earth is this happening THIS IS MY OLD CARD's (X700) SETTINGS!!!!! Pls what is wrong with my system and how can I fix this problem? And yes, I used driver cleaner to remove the old ATI drivers. besides adding 1more GB of RAM what else can I do?

It sems like this games hit or miss for every diff comp. I've tried a bunch of different settings and every setting I've tried runs at the same damn fps. I've used fraps and if I'm playing at 800x600 on all settings on low I get about 33 fps on the avg. If I run at 1280x1024 with some of the settings on med i avergae about 29 fps. It use to run great for me until that last patch.

I dunno man that seems like expected, and possibly even better than expected, peformance.

There are some things you can do to get better peformance though. I can't stress system optimization enough, and please don't think I'm saying this as an all high and mighty optimizer. I just went through it again this weekend and for the first time in months I've been able to push my settings back up to high. It takes some work but worth it in my opinion. Some good guides are:

http://www.tweakguides.com/TGTC.html <-completely free eBook on full computer optimization. Basically a gamers bible.

      http://www.tweakguides.com/NVFORCE_1.html <-Nvidia forceware optimization guide.

      http://www.tweakguides.com/BF2_1.html <-BF2 optimization guide.

By itself, 20-50fps on a 64 player server isn't that crazy. A lot of other things come into play when you're online, most specifically ping. The higher the ping, the more it'll affect your fps.

However if you used to play this same exact server with your old card and you're getting the same exact fps that you used to, then yeah, something's up.

Based on your spec sig, have you thought of getting some more ram? It's possible that that's your bottleneck now. Bottlenecks are frustrating because there's always the chance that you could get more ram and still have a problem, but it's a good idea to have 2gig if you can afford it and if your system will allow it. For now, press ctrl+alt+del, order your processes by username, and end everything except explorer.exe and taskmgr.exe. Don't worry about it if some programs stay open or come back. They're most likely associated with your graphics card and automatically reopen themselves. Also, defrag and scan for viruses/worms/trojans/spyware/adware etc. Lots of great free programs and dont just run one of them. Each program is fairly specific to what it looks for.

In comparison to my setup: like I said, I've been running mostly medium until this weekend when I read v3.0 of the Tweakguides book. I'm not associated with Tweakguides or anything, and it's all free, just great information there. I still need to cut my graphics down to go online because a 20+ server with a high ping bogs me down into the low 20's as well.

Good luck, and hope my long post was more helpful than annoying =P

I just looked at some of those links Jofaba and they are great. I dont have alot of problems with BF2 as im running in Full settings with 80 - 98 FPS usually so this doesnt really apply, but a few more FPS wouldnt hurt

        Thanks man

What do you think my AVERGAE FPS should be on a 64 player map with medium settings?

I have a 6800GT (AGP) and when I play on 64 player maps of Karkand, my FPS are usually around 60-90 with dips into the 20-30s in REALLY INTENSE firefights.

My settings are all high except dynamic lighting and shadows (medium) and 2XAA.

Shadows and Dynamic light tend to bog down during heavy battle. I dropped those down to low and it steady's the fps to a constant. The bonus is, you still get shadows but you can clearly see in them. If you can get another gig, it will also make it smoother. GL

Well I would hope so with a 7800.

                    PS I get that too.

I've had 3 from AC. Always works fantastic. Card NEVER goes over 52c. For $30-$35, it is well worth every penny. Oh and it is completely silent.

Hahahahahahahahahaha. Seriously, cherrios just flew out of my mouth and I had to whipe my screen. I didn't get it at first until I checked their sig. I want AC on my X850XT PE too!!! I was going to do liquid cooling, but an AC seems so much more practical =P

Edit: Maybe I'm dumb because it appears you didn't mean OC. What is "AC"? It's still funny though

i get around 100 and my other machine with a 6800GT (same specs as the one in my sig) runs at 80-90fps.

try putting 2gb of memory in
