I agree, something aint right.

My connection is capped to 6000/768 speeds - but testing shows actual speeds are around 5000/600 speeds (the remainder is normal TCP overhead).

That's still sufficient.

It's not bandwidth.

Thats an excellent connection speed. My guess is something is messing with your PC in your processes, esp when loading. Something is restricting. Anyway once we see that Hijack this log we should be able to solve it.

Yea do you have alot of background stuff running? What is the size of your virtual RAM? It shuold be 1.5 times that of your RAM. It can help to keep things running faster and smoother.

I doubt it will. It might actually make it worse and I might not be able to find 64 bit drivers for everything.

I think there is some form of conflict somewhere or driver issues - something like that.

I don't think it's hardware.

First of all, if you got 2GB RAM, you need to set the Pagefile to 3GB (3072).

From the load of background stuff you're running, the virus checker and the automatic updaters (svchost) can interfere.

Do you have the same probs if you start the game in Single Play? If not, it's definitely your connection. Maybe XP firewall or a router? Try to run without those.

On the RAM memory side: The sticks got to be excact the same make and layout. If they run in dual channel, try to run them in single mode(BIOS).

If nothing helps, it could also mean you have a faulty patch installed. Download another one from another server.

Good point. I unload ZoneAlarm, Yahoo IM, AIM and just about anything else that minimizes to the system tray. I run as barebones as I can prior to starting BF2. I should add that one time I forgot to unload ZoneAlarm, and performance went bad on me. I dont know if it was a one time event and I didn't experiment further, but it was something I did notice one time.

I also had problems twice that resulted in major major lag. I deleted the cache and that cleared it up. After 1.12, for example, performance just died. My soldier running looked like he was crippled and had polio. He had the serious shakes.

All is better now.

Map loads are no quicker in single player mode.

So do you really think setting a page file to 3GB will drop my load times from 5mins to 1min?

I don't think so but I'll try.

Well sorry for digging this up but the problem still remains.

I've replaced my PATA HDD with a SATA HDD but the long load times have not dissapeared. It might be a hair faster but it's nowhere near acceptable.

Still can take 5 mins to get into a game.
