Loooong load times ...

I know this has been discussed a billion times but something is wrong because it takes me about 5 minutes from the time I hit "Join Server" to when I can start playing.

Other people say it should take only one minute - some say 30 seconds.

My computer is NOT slow.

Why is it taking so long for me?

It usually takes so long that by the time the map has loaded, the server has already changed to a new map and then I have to wait again and then sometimes after all that, the server automatically kicks me for "idling" for more than one minute - good grief !!!

Here's my computer stats:

A64 +3400 s754 Clawhammer
MSI Neo Platinum
2 GB memory
6800 Ultra AGP
2 x 120 GB IDE 7200rmp drives.

I've already reinstalled BF2 several times and defragged my drives and cleaned out the cache files. Been there done it.

So what else could be causing extremely long load times?

well funny enough i just spent 5 mins explaing a few things on another post but answer me this 1st........

do u have 500watt power supply (with youre specs u need this mutch power as a minimum cus lets face it power is what ur gfx and prosser use and a 350 watts just wont cut it.

I have a 460W Enermax PSU. It's enough.

I degrag every now and then, not on a regular basis - may be once a month.

i have lower spec's than you but when the "Join Game" Comes up i can click it str8t away....

You might be confused, the 5 minute time i'm complaining about is the time from hitting the "Join Game" button to when you can start playing the game on a server.

I dont believe my problem is hardware performance related. I have a more powerful computer than most.

ok try this
1.defrag ur hadrives
2.unistall bf2
3.defrag again
4.reinstall bf2
5.defrag once more
6.defrag once a week to keep youre hardrive runing smoth ( i do it 4 times in a row each week and it only takes 10 mins now i load in map in 1min 30sec
and have a lower speed pc than you.
this will speed up times but if u want maximum load times get a 500watt power supply and make sure its got 30AMPS if possible high end equipment needs high end power supply or youre just bottlenexking ur pc becuase when it needs power u aint got it.

i belive it beacuse of u not looking after youre hardrive defraging is important, i had a m8 with a 160bg hd and it took him 3 days to get to 97% cus he never defrag ,it can ruin youre harddrive if youre not carfull,also u need 500watt power supply asap to get the best out of you fast machine,hope this helps and belive me i've seen it so many times and i am trying to help :)

maybe your internet connection is slow (just a thought ok.)? Try loading on low

My internet connection is fast 6000/768 ADSL tested to 5000/600 actual speeds.

My speeds are faster than most.

you might also look into a better defrag program that can defrag your pagefile. ie: perfectdisk, or diskkeeper.

I dont know. It takes me maybe 20 seconds on a Dell XPS Gen 2 with 2GB. We both have the same video card and I cant imagine your CPU is the reason. Check your BF2 config...I don't have anything video-related set to high. Most are set to Medium and my anti aliasing is set to off. And I never join a server with a ping higher than 100. Most of my pings are between 70-90.

I use Diskeeper version 9.

I dont think it's disk degfragmentation follks.

It's something else that's causing the extreme slow down.

My system specs are better than most - i don't know what the problem is yet. It's not a general problem - just BF2.

I'm getting a 240 GB SATA HD soon. We'll see if that changes something.

All my settings are on high except dynamic lighting and shadows and textures which are on medium.

I use 1280x1024 with 2xFSAA.

This is a long shot but when connecting to a server, is your speed capped to anything ? What's your connection ?

Something is definetly not right here.

Has this always happened ? Display your processes using Hijack this.

If everything else loads fine something must be stopping you from loading those files when connecting to a server and considering your HD's. Have you modified any content eg. Textures and such ?

120gb Sata Hardrive but it has never had any problem with rescource whores like Bf2 or any other games, infact it runs better than many system better than it, and I'm usualy first into the server. I'm not sure why it loads everything quick. I even got a 2.6 3dmark 05 score but have no problems Ingame or with anything else.

Do you have a lot of stuff loaded into your memory? You've tried going through Task Manager and closing any unnecessary processes that are taking up too much memory right? You could also try increasing the size of your page file. You might also google some tweak guides and see if they have any tips.
