To be honest...I'd forgotten that there were custom maps in this game, and I started making one myself at one point! (abandoned it due to frustration with the map tools though...stupid beta version..)

You'll have one more player on custom map servers if you can answer me these questions:

-Where can I find servers for custom maps?
-How can I be sure I have all the maps that are in rotation on that server?

I don't know why this hasn't occured to me before. I'm always one to get sick of people doing 'silly' things just to increase their points, but the thought never really came to me to play where points don't matter because they aren't recorded, i.e. unranked custom maps!

maranello, in your sig you have a monitor for the TBF2 server, it says it's located in Israel? I don't think most people would get good pings that far away..

Grafisk, people can join together to have fun and games in a clan without having to enter the serious, professional side of things like entering tournaments and so on.

custom content has nearly no players, if it has players it's running on servers nowhere near me, bla bla bla.

Within weeks ( perhaps less ), EA would turn mod/map friendly and start whoring up to the community.

I would like to find some good custom maps BUT the major problem is:
I have NO idea which ones are good. Which ones are popular? What are some good custom map servers? How do i FIND these servers? I don't recall a "custom map" filter in the server browser.

So please be helpful next time instead of just complain. Let us know which maps are good ok? Give us a list, or links, or even better, a website.

Use the maps from the Sir Communtiy, a fantastic one is the Aerial Stunts Server. Good fun.

This website (Total BF2) doesn't even have a custom maps section. It just links to the FileCloud servers. How about an actual custom maps page where people get to submit, rate and comment on maps? And list some popular custom map servers (with IP addresses and how many people on)

Does anyone have a list of servers running the TBF2 map packs? I looked throught the stickies but most of the servers listed don't exist any more, or are running standard EA maps nowadays.

I've only spotted a couple of servers to play on, and they're empty.

Wake has 10 carriers, with floating spawn points high in the sky, great map..

Go to http://totalbf2.filecloud.com/?user_category_id=225317
You will find two mappacks ( totalbf2 map pack 1 & 2 ), download both.
Once downloaded, install them but pay attention to the adress it wants to install to on your machine. Should be: X:\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Levels , and let the program do their things.

OK. Maps are installed, where to play?

Go to TotalBF2 Clans server 64.27.18.176 : 16567

Other servers welcome to add their IP's as well.

As far as I know they also have plans to set up servers in Europe.
And remember, the more traffic you find on the servers the more servers will pop up and more and better quality maps will esablish themselves from the community.

i don't play custom maps or mods because:

1. too lazy to find, download, and install them
2. not enough people play them
3. they don't count towards global ranks

Those are my same exact reasons. Interesting.

Its very simple.....

Ranking is 80-90 % the reason ppl dont play custom maps.....

Ppl will se the way one day. Hell... im almost there myself, but ranking is still just alittle more tempting than good gameplay (yes, ranking dont improve gameplay)

I noticed the same thing myself too that I haven't even downloaded any custom maps for 2. Then again, I never played any custom maps in '42 or V either if you don't count in the mods. But judgin by mods, most of the custom maps are just tank/airplane rushing and they lack all the intensity of regular (the good ones) maps.

Too bad custom maps aren't allowed in ranked servers. I think EA/Ranked Server Provider should provide the possibility of hosting custom maps and allowing the game to download them directly via http on ranked servers. Company like EA should probably have enough bandwidth for this since they get paid for ranked servers. This could be the only way to get people to even TRY the custom maps.

This is a little known fact.

Many custom map and mod servers are now "ranked". I'm not telling a lie. They are "unofficially" ranked. ABR www.bf2scripts.com have released their server files and you can now earn medals, badges etc. on mod servers. All of our project reality servers are now "ranked".

1. You only have yourself to blame for this. It's extremely simple. Click on my sig and away you go. Remember to download and install the mod (PRMM v0.2) AND the hotfix (PRMM v0.2 REV 1).

2. Not true. Nowadays you will usually find at least one populated PRMM server and if you join at peak US times you will find it full and others busy.

I'm not concerned about this. As soon as our full mod and others are released there will be so much new content out there that the majority of players will be on mod and custom map servers in the future.
