I don't want to load up mini-images and have the program that loaded it wasting background resources. I'm very stingy. My CD/DVD drive is extremely recent, and I bought it for around 35 dollars. I defragment often. The harddrive is a special 7200RPM 160 gigabyte drive. A month or so after posting this topic I still have this problem.

I had the same problem with extremely long load times. I found out it was my router blocking the ports that BF2 needed. It would take about 2 minutes, until I opened ports: 27900 UDP, 29900-29910 UDP/TCP(both), 28910 TCP, 1500-4999 UDP

It doesn't take me very long to actually load a map, but verifying client data takes minutes, plural, sometimes. With my setup, it shouldn't take 5 minutes from the time I start BF2 to the time I'm in a game. Hell, Oblivion is opening much faster for me.

Seconded, it takes about 10 minutes to find a server and another 10 minutes to join it for you. It's definetly a good feature if you weigh 800 kg's and are extreamly patient, yet too lazy to click a few times. Whoever implemented such a feature deserves to be burried alive.

I sometimes take about 5-6 minutes to load a map and verify client data. This is the main reason I stick 24/7 servers that don't reload after about 3 rounds, not out of preference, but out of necessity.

I play 24/7 servers for the same reason. Every once in a while the dang server resets anyhow and I STILL have reload the map and verify client data.

I lack a router but I'll see if the Windows Firewall incorrectly added it to the exceptions list.

Oblivion loads instantly, doesn't it? For me atleast.

                  And would re-installing BF2 help?

It takes a good minute for me to load on a ranked server from ASE, but from map to map it loads in 20 secs. I am usually first on the ground. But on a mod like NAW, it loads in a few seconds from ASE. I think it is some check with the EA rank servers that takes so long.

Guys, I'm not even talking about loading a server. I mean getting to the login screen or the intro, or anything really. I just reinstalled the game and I can't really say it is quick when I reach the login screen. What the hell?

                      Anyone else have any ideas?

Yes, Oblivion is pretty much instant.

I'm using a Maxtor 300GB Sata II with 16MB cache
4 x 512 OCZ gold ram running in dual channel

BF takes forever whether I set affinity to one proc or not.
I even turned down a bunch of settings thinking maybe the larger textures were taking longer to load. No help there.
