Want real stealth? Play vanilla, not SF.

I recently once again dared to poke my head back into normal BF2 and experienced how it felt to be truly stealthy in this game, not just hiding in the shadows now and then in SF and getting spotted 90% of the time anyway.

It was on Kubra Dam, 32 player size with 32 people. I was sabatoging the American main base. This was real stealthy action. Timing, hiding in the grass and bushes, hiding in houses until people in vehicles came out, then taking their vehicle, etc. Twice I'd had a vehicle look directly at me and go right by me because I was so well hidden. Heck, one particullarly fun incident I had was blowing up a BH pilot with c4 WHILE HE WAS IN MID AIR:

I had destroyed 2 commander assets already and had only 1 c4 left. So, I figured, why not destroy a vehicle, or better yet, the people in the vehicle. So I went over to the black hawk and carefully tossed c4 right in between the 2 gunner and pilot positions. I then said to everyone "Good thing they aren't using their black hawk against us" and then said to my team "wink wink". Not too much later I saw some USMC get into the black hawk, no one was there for him to pick up, so he took off. I let him get pretty far into the air before saying "Say goodnight BH pilot." Then I detonated my last c4 inside the cockpit. Didn't blow up the copter but it killed the pilot and sent it spinning out of control. He then said something like "What? You didn't even see it explode." (not sure what he meant, but he was clearly confused). I then explained what I had done. It was fun/ny as heck.

My point being, though SF was supposed to bring stealth to the gameplay, lack of brush to hide in and lack of space to sneak around in really did the opposite despite that they added shadows to hide in.

    Anyone agree?

thats the one thing i miss from the 1942 days is stealth, it is almost non-existent now. i still enjoy every once in awhile trying to sneak into the main base and blowing commanders assests, but whats the point when everyone knows you are coming and the uav, trailer and arty can be repaired in 10 seconds from a supply drop. and plus you only get 1 measly point.

imo Sf was just a money maker and a way to test different things, i think most are good like grap hooks and zip lines and the new guns.. yea

To be entirely honest, I think it's because you're used to SF.

I recently went to regular to try out my SF unlock in vanilla, and I found it much easier than I was used to. I think it's because SF has better players (I'm generalizing so don't get offended if you didn't buy SF, you are still probably better than me. I'm talking about the lil noobs).

Anyway, if you want to sneak alot I recommend Ghost Town and Warlord, because both offer opportunities for stealth and long-range killings.

although sneaking into a main base is fun, its just not worth it. blow up the uav and trailer, maybe kill 1 or 2 people and then get killed yourself. supply drop falls and repairs it, so whats really the point? i think if u got 3 or 4 points for blowing up arty and stuff, i think more people would do it.

Who cares about the arty and UAV.... Go engineer and place one mine on top of every single piece of armor you can find.... the enemy will have no idea it is there. I did it once on dragon valley and racked up 10 kills before anyone actually came looking for me... I also blew up the helo as soon as it tookoff numerous times.... I was laughing so hard I couldn't even walk strait...

                  You + Uav + SF = Owned.

I guess what your saying is Sf naturally becomes and stealthy game due to various aspects but getting a real challange and being stealth like in Vanilla can be some serious fun.

From the vague sense I get of what you're saying...no.

I'm saying, despite that SF was supposed to "bring" stealth to the battlefield, it took away more elements than it brought. Smaller map size is not good for stealth. I mean, ONE UAV TRANSMITION can reveal 90% of the people on the map in places like Ghost Town. Also, grass and bushes are great for hiding in, but with all the indoor areas in SF, there aren't many of those.

And I agree, they should give more points for destroying commander assets. I mean, you get 2 points for a kill, and I'd say destroying a scan satellite is as if not more important than a measley kill.

In a good game no one should need to chose between points, (legit play,) and fun. They should all be one in the same.

But man, it WAS worth it just for that black hawk incident.

Too bad it wasn't fully loaded. Oh I've got to try that again.

Well that bursts my bubble, heh.

Anyway, Yep, Commander assets esp. Uav should be awarded 2 points. Repairing assests should also be 2 points. Nough said.

                        yes it does...

I really don't think this is true. The reason why they ignore you is most likely since in vanilla BF2, every cares about the points, so one person just seems out of the way (beleive me, I've seen people ignore me well I was in clear view shooting them). I tryed playing vanilla BF2 yesterday, and no one cares about teamwork. No one joins squads. That's why I love BF2-SF so much, everyone IS a better player as they understand that working as a squad will win the game.

I don't know how many times I've been in SF, at a base by myself, then suddenly look over and C a squad of 5 people come over on a zip line! They went completely unnoticed until I saw them, that's stealthy.

SF allows the player to be more stealthy is they want to. I always use the grapple to go into enemy spawn roofs, and it takes forever for them to notice that I knife whoever dares to snipe up there.

Stealth is dead. Only diversion and luck remain.

If you do it right sneaking to the main base to blow assets is truly worth it.

Ok so you get 5 C4 to start, not enough to blow everything granted, but enough to make it count.

Sneak in, and immediatly blow the UAV and the Radar, that way they can't spot you using either. Then wait, kill off anyone you see, if you are good enough you should be able to stay alive for quite some time. As for them dropping repair boxes to fix either of those, well those boxes give you health and ammo as well. So re-arm your C4 reserves, blow up whatever is left and just keep hidden.

I've spent entire rounds at the US base on Karkand just blowing up assets.
