    Shooting down jets with TVG-missiles.

    Hello

I was just wondering how much is it going on.. I have always been quite efficient with the TV giuded missiles but recently me and my pilot noticed how much some jet pilots slow down in order to get a good lock-on with their AA-missiles.

So the first time was more or less an accident. A jet was on a crash course with us and my pilot turned to face it to scare it off with rockets. The jet dove right under us and i timed my TVG launch so that i managed to hit the jet...

From that moment on we realized that its not a suicide to take on a jet coz theres not much to lose in that situation anyway.

In that same round i shot down another jet from some distance, as it was just taken off and moving relatively slow still..

Then yesterday i shot down 4 jets in 4 consecutive rounds.. One of them was a really long missile chase from behind tha jet ... and oh the satisfaction of succeding in that.

So finally.. how much is this going on ? How many of you have shot down a jet with a TVG?

the only two i can remember was hitting a j10 on take off on wake island...

then this guy was hovering his jsf on oman using it to strafe people...he was really good at it tho... but he started to fire at us which kinda ****ed my pilot off who lined me up nicely...boom is the last word ill say...

Rather use the missiles on armor or other choppers.

I've never tired shoot a jet with the TVGs, but I do pick off transport choppers and other attack choppers.

I shot one down when it was doing a Fly by with AB on.

I do it regularily, especially on Daqing, where you can dodge in and out of cover quickly (like an attack hopper is meant to be used). My "Favorite Victim" (10) is a result of that.

            Tips:

1.) Hide behind hill near base where tanks spawn (East Oilfield, for example), when bomber comes and bombs the flag, bob up, fire missile into his exhausts, get kicked for "OMG CHEATER H4X!!!".

2.) Learn to think like a pilot. Remember their flight corridors for attack runs and refuels, use them to your advantage. Most pilots will slow down to repair and refill, or to strafe choppers, or to bomb. Shoot when you see the landing gear come out, then you will be fast enough. Otherwise: Waste of a TV missile, because they're too fast. Fighters are generally to agile too pull it off, unless the pilot is a noob who doesn't look back/use the afterburner.

            3.) aim like this:
If this is the bomber from behind __|_|__ (vertical lines are tail fins)
then aim here: __|x|__ - yes, ABOVE the exhausts. If he pulls up, you hit him in the belly. If he flies straight, you hit the canopy.

4.) Man the attack hopper ALONE if you can't get a decent pilot/gunner. Use the aforementioned tactics, except that you rise to 120 ft, switch to gunners seat, and fire. While in the gunners seat, AA missiles can't lock on you, and at 120 ft the chopper will just spin higher while you guide your missile. Lead ~15° for the missile before firing, as switching to the gunenrs seat will make the helo spin.

5.) Deal with enemy choppers, tanks, apcs first - jets and cars last. You will be more use to your team. Except for when the enemy steals your planes and totally nukes you to hell, then by all means go down a bomber.

6.) Get a friend to chopper with you, and COMMUNICATE. I only fly an attack chopper with a friend, EVER, because we know each other's limits and communicate well.

            7.) Practice. Practice. Practice.

If a pilot has to slow down to aim, so much so that it allows you to hit him with TV missiles, you proberbly wasted that missile since the pilot proberbly suck so much you would do your team a favor by leaving him alive, flying around so beter pilots on his team cant get the jet.

A general rule to remember, a jet pilot is only worth shooting down if he killed 2 players before he died, that is, without kamakazi. It might seem a rather low limit, but half of the people flying dosnt meet the requirements.

TV missile hits become possible at 500-600 airspeed. That's what many bomber pilots slow down to, either to let their gunners lock on targets, or to carpet bomb more effectively, or to repair, or to strafe choppers with the cannon.
Also, every last noob can get more than 2 kills without kamikazeing with a bomber pretty much instantaneously, because a) people use the fighter to down bombers too seldomly b) the spider bombs need very little skill to kill with.

I only fly the chopper, but my clanmate and I find it very funny to track and shoot down the aircraft.

does accedentally tking jets count, as ive had that happen a couple of times, and if they are on a collision course; not too hard then

I think i exaggerated the "slowing down for bombing run" part in my opening post.

I'd like to add that an attack chopper isn't of course my primary anti-jet defense tool, but there are times when trying to shoot down a jet is the best of your few bad options.

When a jet pilot sees a chopper hovering around they usually make an approach and if they fail to shoot it down, they'll fly straight, make a 180' and make another approach. That's quite predictable so IF you didn't have anything more important going on (no AA vehicles around or flags about to be captured) u might as well get into position to shoot down the approaching jet on it's second pass. The other option is to dive for cover.

But of corse 95% of the time you should be using the TVG and turret on ground targets and other choppers.

I managed to shoot down a plane with the tv guided missle only once. It was very funny and I didnt thoght to try it again. There are much easier targets than jets and I we saw a jet hoverinr then the pilot will take it out not the co-pilot cus its faster that way... so I voted on "not worth trying"

Re: Shooting down jets with TVG-missiles.

Can be done when they're "incoming", even if they're not slowing down. Bit of luck (and reflexes) needed, and you also need to track its movement, to position yourself to the direction he'll come from.

Outgoing jets need to slow down, since TV missile is slower than jet going at full speed.

Very easy to hit them on takeoff, or while reloading (and slowing down over the airfield), etc. Hovering aircrafts (F35B) can be shot down even with jeep guns, so... they're sitting ducks in any case.

I've shot quite few of them with chopper missiles as well. Few times we (gunner and me) "finished" the plane with chopper gun.

Sometimes the pilot (when he gets shot down) will start avoiding you, which is nice :)

But in other cases, pilots will forget everything else, and concentrate just on you. Which ends up in 50% of your deaths being by plane ramming in you (some people can't handle the fact that chopper can shoot them down in plane :)).
