    Improved Gameplay Type

    EDIT
    This thread has been re-writtin!!

Hello everyone! The purpose of this thread is for all of you BF2'ers to read my, and others, opions on how EA and Dice are doing, and have done, with the BF franchise(Mainly BF2). Please do not bring flaming post in here, as this is soposed to be opions only. Please keep this thread friendly and clean, by all means! I will start off with two things. One is a new Gameplay mode I would like to see implemented in a patch, or maybe a MOD =). The second is somthing that I have a big problem with, that is already in the game. I hope that some modding teams can come here and get the most out of what the community would like to see.

    Advance and Secure:
I assume that a few of you have moved from Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising, which was released two years ago by Novalogic, and supported up to 150 players per server, to Battlefield 2, like myself. For those of you that have, you may remember the main gameplay type from that game: Advance And Secure. For those of you that are unformiluar with this gameplay type, I will give you the breakdown.

AAS is basically like Conquest, which is obviously the gameplay type in BF42, BFV, and BF2. Infact, I think that is where the idea came from. There are a few diffrences, though, with this type. In AAS, you have spawn points, much like Conquest, but these spawn points are linked. Now, lets take a look at how the structure of Conquest works. You have multiple spawn points, all open for the oposing team to capture, in any order, at anytime. Now, that's all fine and dandy, but that can, and has, greatly impacted the teamplay aspect of the BF franchise, in my opinion. The way AAS works, is to capture point C, you must own point B. After you capture one point, you have to go to the next givin spawn. This keeps the battles in one area, and cuts down on the rambo aspect.

I would love to see this implemented in an official patch for BF2, but the liklyhood of that is slim to none. So possibly, any modding groups out there that would like to give it a go, do it. I think it would make for an awsome teamplay gametype, which Is what im all about.

    Red Tags, Who Needs Em?!:
Before the game was released(actually, before the demo was released) I remember being in a 600 man TS that was being run by TBF2...and there, questions were popping up about this and that not being realistic...and the admins, and the folks with the most info, kept stressing that EA was shooting at Arcade gameplay....so yes, I relise this. But, am I not alone when I say that the red tags on mouse-over are not just retarded? I will refer back to Joint Operations when I discuss this matter.....in JO, you actually had camo...that, well consealed you in the surrounding foilage....Okay, so another might say that "Hey U3t, this isn't jungle warfare, its desert mostly!". Well, EA could of made this great game even better by adding in some camo that worked....becouse, may I add that it really sucks when your sniping in a near foilage area, WITH A GUILY SUIT ON, and yet you stick out like a sore thumb...and if the blind miss that, then they will surely see the cute little red tag....

This thread is mainly about the +'s and -'s that BF2 has...and I would really like to see you all's views on my opions, and jott'n down your own.

I thank you all for your time and hope you understand that this thread revolves around opion...please do not flame me for these things =),

Damn, that would be a good implimentation, it would eliminate the back country raids to capture a spawn point, but still would allow special forces to rampage in the backfield and draw troops off of the front lines to track them down.

Not a bad idea by any means, but I think that sort of gameplay would work better on maps specifically designed for it.

At the least, it would make playing on large maps (which often have too many flags to defend) less frustrating.

        Absolutely

I used play a lot of Black Hawk Down and what not from Novalogic back in the day. Black Hawk Down's main system is pretty much a carbon copy of conquest. While I've never had the oppurtunity(sp?) to play Joint Ops, I've always been impressed by Novalogic's multiplayer aspects of there games. I really do wish Dice would take a page out of Novalogic's book and implement this system of linked points to be captured as it would make teamplay much more important as you would have to have your whole army cooperating in order to defend and attack and be able to switch between the two. It's a shame it probably will be looked over by EA/Dice though :hmm:

Isn't this like the "Supply lines" way of playing?

I have played that game type in Join Operations. It does have it's good side, but also it's bad side. The game would work with smaller number of players on each team (say 8 each).

Imagine if you had 64 people essentially playing on two flags in BF 2, it would be chaotic and laggy. If the people who died can respawn at the flag that is being battled on, it would be a pain to take a flag.

I would like a game type like this, but with maybe 2 flags to take and 2 to defend at a given time. The main reason people don't like defending bases in BF 2 is the artillery that's going to come raining down and plane pilots that will bomb you before you even know they are there.

Get rid of these two aspects of the game and you might see a bit more flag defending and thus not as many flag changes.

In JO(Joint Ops) certain maps had multiple spawns that could be taken at the same time...I believe the max was was 4(2 for each side) tho.

It just depends on the setup of the map.

sounds good, but I also like the way conquest is right now. I've been and seen that rouge guy many times go and capture a way far out there point, and from this turn the tide of the battle as your teams last spawn point fell, gave a new front on the enemy, etc. Though AAS would keep the battles in one place, I would not want it to replace the standard conquest. As an alternative game mode though, that would be awesome.

I don't post often but this looks like a good idea.

I think they should make this more of an optional thing. Like when you get to choose what you want in your server there is a choice to have it on and off so everyone can play whatever game type they want.

Also, AAS should not be allowed on small maps with alot of people, otherwise it will be total chaos when everyone is going for the same flag.

I can see your point to doing that type of game, however I really like the aspect of being able to sneak behind the front line, and capture a spawn point. Then, and only if you got squads working as groups, you can attack from the front, and the back. Basically overwhelming the enemy because they won't know where your coming from. Plus your already pulling people away from the 1 flag to retake the one behind them thus leaving less men to defend the front line flag.
