First Sergeant promotion Basic/Vet prob???

Hi All,

I'm close enough to getting my next promotion in BF2. I've earned all the requisite badges to in theory get "First Sergeant". However I earned my veteran and basic knife badges at the same time, I've come across a few mentions in these forums before saying that there was a bug which in effect meant because the basic and veteran badges where earned at the same time the basic badge was ignored and so people weren't promoted to "First Sergeant" and instead they got "Master Sergeant" despite having the requirements.

Anyone know if this issue was fixed or is on the list to be fixed? Or has anyone in similar circumstances to mine just smoothly got their "First Sergeant" promotion recently?

I think I'm having a similar problem. I have all the requisites for First Sergeant, but it hasn't promoted me. I don't know if I got consecutive badges for any of them though.

Thanks for the reply, just checked your stats on BF2s, still had the old data prior to you earning 20,000 points, another stat site was up to date though. Did you manage to acquire Basic Knife before the 20,000?, I believe the promotion at this level is a fork in the road?. If you meet all the basic requirements you get "First Sergeant" and then go onto "Sergeant Major" but if you only fulfill the requirements after the fact then you stay at "Master Sergeant" and go down a different promotion path to "Master Gunnery Sergeant".

Thats why I was concerned as to whether this issue has been fixed. I was feverishly running around to get my Basic Knife before promotion, but then it was too late I had enough kills to get the Veteran badge at the same time.

I got my basic and veteran knife badges at the same time running the last patch before this new one(1.12) and it allocated both to me. When i got promoted I got promoted to First Sergeant. i think you should be ok as long as you didnt earn the badges in early version patches

Probably untrue. My friend got the Basic and Vet at the same time and was promoted to FS. (1.02)

This has been talked about before many times. Post 1.03 this problem does not exist, but if you got the basic and vet badge of some award at the same time, you will not be promoted to 1st sgt. I know because it happened to me. For what you mentioned Churrasco, they might have reearned the basic badge before the promotion. That can happen if you go into a server and it does not recongnize your rank. I've earned the basic assault, pistol, and many other badges a few times before. I did reearn the basic pistol, so I am up for sgt major now, but if you want to get promoted, be sure to that you have received all the basic badges needed, and if you got vet at the same time, go and reearn the badge you need, otherwise, you will not get the higher rank.

Yeah I got basic knife last night. I never really tried very hard to get it, but I got it on Karkand at the spawn at the railroad crash. I started running with enemy soldiers who didn't realize I was enemy and nailed a bunch, and got a few people TKd on that team. :laugh:

I can't even remember if I got veteran of anything at the same time, so I don't know if that's the reason or not.

Well Churrasco, I hope you will keep us up to date on what happens when you reach 20,000, hopefully FS rank will be yours.

I posted this same query in the EA BF2 forums, got a similar mixed set of responses and experiences.

The most promising reply was this one ...

It was fixed about a week after the 1.03patch was released. People who had missing basic badges were given them but those who installed the patch and ranked up lost out.

If you can see all the basic badges in BFHQ then you won't have a problem.

Hi, my BFHQ stats show the same, says my next rank is Master Sergeant instead of First Sergeant despite meeting the requirements :-( . So not sure what will happen when I reach 20K. I checked your BF2S stats, whereas I earned my Basic/Veteran knife badge at the same time it seems to indicate you earned your Basic/Veteran pistol at the same time.

Likewise for me, BF2S says my next rank is First Sergeant.

EDIT: I just checked Churrasco's stats, he's the closest to promotion and in the same boat as us, in his case Basic/Veteran knife earned together, BF2S show his next rank as being "First Sergeant" but other stat sites and so presumably BFHQ show it as "Master Sergeant", I guess when Churrasco gets promoted he'll be able to let us know our fate.
