I'm currently playing on a 54" HD in 720p. I ran the nVidia TV applet to udjust for overscan and ended up with 1136x664 and it looks fine, nothing seems cut off or stretched too much. I didn't even know I wasn't getting true widescreen until I read this post.

Anyway..

just add your widescreen res to the shortcut by adding:

+szx XXXX +szy YYYY

e.g. BF2.exe +fullscreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050

No they shouldn't be wasting time supporting enhanced features on hardware only 2% of us own, they should be fixing bugs.

That detail hides snipers and other units, with that detail off they're easier to see, so turn your high detail off too.

Again bollox, with a screen that size you'd either be sitting further away, or forced to move your head around. I know this I've played in 8' X 6' with my projector.

Crap, anyone with a rig good enough to play BF2 seriously can afford a decent mouse.

This is PC gaming, if everyone had the same kit it would be no better than a console. I have a 40" widescreen panel worth £2,500, i've paid (well i won, but whatever) for an advantage, just the same as the guy who buys a £350 graphics card and £70 laser mouse when he comes up against me with my raddy 9800 and basic Microsoft mouse.

There will be cases where players with hardware able to play the game will be disadvantaged compared to others with superior hardware. That does not mean those with more money and superior hardware should be handed yet another advantage, surely a more even playing field would be fairer.

This is the 21st century not 1985, game devs need to be supporting widescreen resolutions.

Given that a widescreen ratio would enable you to see 23% more of the battlefield, the fact that BF2 has a flat horizon and view distance increases out from the centre of the fov, and that peripheral vision is specifically designed to pick up peripheral movement / contrast etc, I think it's fair to assume that native widescreen would yield a significant advantage.

DICE are also too apprehensive to give the 2% of us who have widescreens a competitive advantage...

I've started to look at the really big samsungs and I would like aWll games to support widescreen. signed: Snafu

I had a Samsung 930BW I think, anyway, I got another one, an Acer 1916W and it's 10x better. The Samsung would get alittle blurry(for lack of a Technical description) during intense fighting on BF2, the Acer just laughs at it, and plays on.

Obviously, I'm not talking about "really big" Samsungs, just 19"ers, and I'm sure you have compared other brands, just my 2cents.
