Re: BF2 Badges: Promoting poor play?

I actually do like the idea that some of you posted:
Giving badges for actual kit used to get kills (e.g. Basic Sniper Badge for actual sniping kills... not sitting in a tank as a sniper and killing people).

I respect what everyone has to say, particularly EvilZucchini (who always seems to have smart posts), but here's my caveat: I use my pistol only when I think it's needed (e.g. I have a shotgun and need a medium range shot or ran out of bullets in primary gun in a close combat fight) and I use my knife only when I think it's needed (e.g. run out of pistol bullets in close combat fight, doing some sneaky Spec Ops stuff at enemy base, or sneaking up on a stupid sniper). I think it's stupid that I have teammates running around with their knives out in Karkand trying to get a badge or throwing C4 all over the place trying to get a badge.

I just don't like people who compromise winning the map for a badge/ribbon. That drives me nuts.

I've been saying that for a long time, the system in some instances rewards people for doing stupid ****, like bailing out of a jet so that you can parachute for 10 seconds and get a badge for it, as an example.

most typically, boat flipping or vodnik in the water for expert engineer badge.

Yes!!! I live for that snare drum. I get a rush when I found out I got a badge or a ribbon or something. And I'm just as disappointed when I checked my stats and noticed I had like 5 Gold Stars. Arghhh!!!! I guess I was notified about the first one (maybe), but when I received them again, BF2 thought it was no big deal so they just put a "2x", "3x", etc on them.

That said, I agree with the first poster. It does promote poor play. But that's just because of the particular implementation. The idea is good; it does force me to do other stuff and pick other classes, etc. It's just not totally implemented right. I hate "earning" badges for stuff I have no right (i.e "x number of kills as a medic" when I am commander and all my kills are via arty). Those aren't medic kills; those are commander kills.

          Still....keep the badges/ribbons/medals. I'm hooked.
