my computer is doing this too. used to work fine and i have the same hardware as before dont know why. tried to update nvidia drivers but got a new error i never had before. when i put new drivers in it loads to a black screen. 79.11 drivers always work newer ones did not. I have to reset and i know its at the desktop but monitor is black except for greenish cursor in top left. (not blinking) the default winxp driver does not go lower than 800*600 when i put in the 79.11 drivers it boots perfectly to my 1280*1024 desktop, but when i put in either the 81.89 or 81.95 (only 2 i tried) the monitor loads to 640*480 (can tell on monitor controls) and has that black screen.

So either my computer runs great with 79.11 but crashes EVERY time a new map loads, or does not work at all with newer drivers. some of the posts here say they have updated all and still have the problem, so maybe it doesnt matter anyway what drivers i have. still cant play more than one BF2 map at a time.....

My computer is having this problem as well. It keeps crashing at 62% (while it is loading the geometries). I also have tired reinstalling my OS (only after using DBan Nuke (http://dban.sourceforge.net/) to wipe all old info from my hard drives) and have reinstalling BF2 and Special Forces more times than I can count. I have tried launching the game using the lowest possible video settings but it has had no effect. The only way I can get the game to actually run is when I launch BF2 after it has been first installed without any patches. Once I install Special Forces or any patches (that includes 1.02, 1.03, and 1.12) it fails at 62%.

My current install process for BF2 was to first wipe all traces of previous BF2 installs and patches then to install BF2, reboot, install Special Forces, reboot, install patch 1.12, and then rebooted. It was only after that last reboot did I even attempt to launch the game. My specs are as follows:

Intel P4 3.0 Ghz with HT
Asus P4P800-E mobo
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb (newest drivers and catalyst drives available from ati.com)
1 GB (2 x 512mb) Corsair DDR SDRAM 400 (PC3200)
160 GB Western Digital Hard Drive (IDE)
XP Home with SP2


Can anyone help?!? Hey Bulletproof was getting a new video card the only thing you did to fix the problem? Kyrium did you get yours to work? If so, HOW?

Ok my friend listen up, i have the fix for bf2, its not the game at fault its our systems, if you read the back cover of the game case ea/dice say you need a gig of ram to play this game, what they forgot to mention was that you need a full gig alone to play it and didnt take into consideration that only having a gig sys you will only have 1/2 to 3/4 of that spare after windows has loaded with all your sys programs running (varies on everyones sys), ive put an extra gig into my sys with all my settings on high and it works flawlessly, no ctd at all, so my advice would be, GET ANOTHER GIG. also to play it you would need at least a 1mbit connection, i have a 2.2mbit and play on 64player maps with no lagg at all, well happy now!

Well replacing the videocard did fix the problem.
Fresh install and only the last patch should fix it too.
But i got fresh new problems with the videocard..
it keeps crashing my comp...
but i can play BF and SF!!

i got 1gb ddr and it runs perfect now
got a 10mbit connection but i still have lag sometimes..
By the way should we open a new topic for the noob tubes in the game

Ok, it sounds like it could be Punkbuster related, go to the punkbuster site http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=announce.php & download the manual Punkbuster update for BF2, save this little program into your BF2 directory, go online & double click it, it will manually update your Punkbuster installation, i've seen this problem before & it may help.

I was able to manually update punkbuster, but it didn't do any good. Getting more RAM isn't really an option till tax refund time. The game was working correctly till I first installed Special Forces. Since then nothing relating to BF2 has worked right.

I downloaded the debugging tools for windows and managed to look at the dmp files in the bfs folder within my documents. Each of the dmp files had the same error....

D:\DiceCanada_Xpack_Patch\Code\BF2\Geom\BundledMes hTemplate.cpp(269): Error: Geom: Cannot load BundledMesh Objects/weapons/handheld/nshgr_flashbang/Meshes/nshgr_flashbang.bundledMesh Please make sure it exists!

Any suggestions??

i have and do have same problem the way i get round it is to delete all file in C:\Documents and Settings\Mark\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\xpack\cache
and this to C:\Documents and Settings\Mark\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache\
i hope this helps worked for me and my brother good luck

I have no xpack folder within My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods directory. The only thing in my MODs directory is is a BF2 folder which has a sub-directory called cache that contains two folders.

sorry the xpack folder is the special forces cache so just try deleting only the other one good luck

Thinking that it might make a difference I even tried launching the games with the disk 1 for BF2 and then with disk1 for Special Forces but I still got the same result.


The D:\ is my main CD Drive. Could my cds for Special Forces have been bad thus corrupting everything when I installed it? I am tempted to erase everything dealing with BF2 and Special Forces again and then just installing BF2 and the 1.12 patch and see what happens. If I do I will let you all know if it works. I may, however, just wait to see if EA Support has any brilliant ideas as to the error message.....but thus far their "help" hasn't been very good at all.

you could try removing it all delete dir ect then reinstall bf2 then sp with out running bf2 then do the new patch 1.12 then run game
all you have to rememeber it you password to log on to game if you have set the keys up in the game copy your control file which is in C:\Documents and Settings\Mark\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0001 file,name Controls.con
then you can put it back after you run the game the first time you must run the game the put file back

Nooooooooooooooooooo, the 5200 is not supported by EA, Yessssssssssssssssss it will run BF2 fine. How many times is this going to be debated??? And do not I repeat do not run any drivers above 77.77 with this card or the 5500, The end

Got it up an running finally. Fresh install of BF2, reboot, install patch 1.12, and reboot. Must have a bad copy of Special Forces.
