Okay, you made your point. But couple things from it are clear as cristal. Crystall. Whatever. Yes, most of his articles are made for fighting games, but some of em, mostly those that are discussing of players mental understanding, can be applied to the players of BF2 too. Kids who cry "tank-whore!" don't play AT enough. Or "copter-whore" those need to call a jet to blast that rolfcopter to heaven.

But I'm happy that you read even some of those articles, as that was my objective, to spread the sirlin's religion.

I also started to think that reducing the damage radius is a better solution that increasing the damage radius. It becomes harder to kill the infantry. Still, adding a minimum range feature is definitly a must!
Yep, I agree. I have no problem being killed by an assualt guy using a GL, but it rubs it in when he is in your face, bunnyhopping etc. It looks stupid, and puts me in a bad mood for the rest of the game. :hmm:

It is possible, like you say, to avoid instant death sometimes. As with any class, sometimes rushing straight at them, zig-zagging, puts them off soo much they mess. Then of course, the long-ish reload for the GL gives you the perfect opportunity.

A little off-topic here -- often I find myself (sadly) calling out for the guy in the tank, just shooting away into my spawn point from 150m away in Karkand. Why? Because I'm going AT and the rest of my team isn't. It's annoying as hell.

As a matter of fact, I find it that few players can use the AT class decentely. :p

That aside, I've never grasped the whole "play to win" concept. It just doesn't mix with me. Obviously, I enjoy winning, but I also enjoy knowing I have some skill on infantary fighting. When some guy jumps out of a corner with a 203, my first reaction is to jump in his direction and well, it doesn't always work. It leaves me no chance to counter.

Point being, CQC with the M203 = doesn't take any skill. It's a shameless tactic to just rise the score. M203 shots at a distance -- now there's a kill that will leave me with a smirk on my face. I deserved it and the guy who did it either was lucky or is skilled.

I also disagree that the assault class is based around the 203 (to whoever said it). AK-101/47/F2000/M16/G3 all have higher deviation than standard, but they're more powerful. Although I fully agree they need accuracy bumped, I don't agree their main focus is the 203. Personally, I find it that these assault rifles are devastating in CQC. Also, the extra armor you're getting does make a huge difference -- I've had M95 shots popped into some guy's chest, then draw the sidearm, shoot another round and they're still standing -- usually, this works fine with other classes, but not with any of the classes given extra armor.

Also, teamplay is an important factor. I find assault more effective if you're in a squad around with a medic -- as with any other class, but since you're more likely to come out of a close encounter alive (even if you draw your 203 for desperate survival), just ask for healing. Repeat the process. Assault isn't supposed to be a "ZOMG ZUPER 1337 CL455" against infantary. It's supposed to be better than most infantary while still being killable. The problem I see here is people continue to see BF2 as a game where squad play makes no difference whatsoever.

To prove my point, as Spec Ops, whenever I go up against assault close up, I tend to die fast if he's using an automatic rifle. I also find assault + G3 very effective in Sharqi -- mainly because it's a CQC map on some ends.

In short, here's my view on it:
        - Assault accuracy is mediocre. If you adapted to the 203, then you should adapt to your rifle. Go through buildings and avoid open spaces (and if you're in an openish map, don't use assault). It's more powerful and with the bigger spread you'll hit targets in close quarters easily (I can't kill a thing with the G36C up close any more).
        - The 203 can save your life, but assault is not based around it.
        - You have extra armor. Although it doesn't seem like much, it does make a noticable difference, enough to make you survive close quarters against Spec-Ops/Medics and enough for you to make a run for cover when you're getting sniped.
        - Flashbangs are useful. Period.

The only classes that I see that can kill assault very easily would be AT/Engy with their shotguns. That is, assuming you haven't pulled out your GL...

I can honestly say ive never bunny-naded anyone, not even once, but I do use my GL against cars and distance enemies alot, and I also use it to blow up claymores at the top of ladders (easier than with hand grenades). I'd hate to see it taken away, but at the same time being bunny-naded sucks. Maybe they should give it a minimum range, that coupled with they innability to jump and shoot might work.

Actually, I originally read them a few years ago - they've been circulated in game forums for many moons.
