For some reason, I doubt that, considering the small amount of troops you guys sent there. Repuatable source please?
I couldn't find any direct referances to confirmed kills, but do remember when the reports first came out. Remember, sniper kills are much easier to confirm than armor or air kills.
It's hard to find much info on JTF-2's actions as they are our elite commando types and publisizing their activities isn't in the best interests of their involvment. However, I have dug up a few things:
The [record setting] kill, one of more than 20 unofficially accredited to Canadian snipers during Operation Anaconda in Afghanistan's Shah-i-Kot Valley, beat the 35-year-old record of 2,500 yards, or 2,250 metres, set by U.S. Marine Gunnery Sgt. Carlos Hathcock in Duc Pho, South Vietnam.
Canada's special operations military unit, Joint Task Force 2, has been awarded the U.S. Presidential Unit Citation for heroism in battle. It's just the second Canadian military unit to receive the honour. U.S. President George W. Bush made the presentation in California to the American commander of the multinational force in Afghanistan of which JTF-2 was a part from October 2001 to April 2002. The citation, first awarded after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour on Dec. 7, 1941, is given to units of the United States and allied nations "for extraordinary heroism in actions against an armed enemy."
I got a giggle outta that one.
And your two light transport vehicles dont impress me. A reconnaissance vehicle, and, a snowmobile?
Those were just a couple of the more interesting vehicles I found in our offical stables. The point is that we've been working on the idea of light, rapid deployment armour and infantry support for longer than the US has. We didn't have a choise. Our millitary budget is tiny, so we have to work with less expencive toys. It's called "Inovation through limitation".
Interesting to note that we've been getting a lot more attention from the States on the use of our light armour.
That recon vehicle, for example, costs less than 1/10th of an Abram, but has longer opperational range, less support requirments, faster ground speed, and can kill tanks thanks to it's TOW mount. Handy, eh?
Oh... and check out the sniper rifles our boys play with:
Simple design, very reliable, very deadly.
Granted, we like US ammo better than our stock stuff, but there's those damned cost limitations again.
Not Canada bashing here, I love the place, been there on several occasions. Nice people, clean cities, just not the greatest millitary, thats all. And hell, you dont really need one, everybody loves Canada!
I'm not consitering this a bash at all... we make fun of our millitary all the time. It's amusing when we can't even mobilize without having to hitchhick on US aircraft!
However, I was doing some research awhile back and was shocked to discover how much our boys are respected by other millitary forces. There's lots of mis-conseption as to how our millitary really works.
But I do think having Canada and France would be lame, not only because of weakness, but because there isnt much of a storyline there. I mean, why would Canada invade another country all of a sudden?
Think about the possiblities of reversing that senario. Realisticly speaking, the first step towards a real invasion of the stats would be to take out Canada first. Imagin fighting in the artic! Snowmobiles of various designs backed by specially outfitted tanks and transports. Winter Camo. Slippery slopes. Icy death causing water. Pine forests and craigy mountian sides.
Carrying nukes instead of c4's and holding 2 Tank turrets instead of rifles.
They would be very easily downed though because of their size and they couldn't use vehicles cause their big biceps can't move as much
Actually, a bit OT, but not so much armies I'd like to see, but how about a couple URBAN PLA/CHINESE Maps. I mean we have Mashtur, Karkand, and Sharqi, 3 great urban maps....where's the battles in the streets of some Asian country, as the US advances towards China?
