one more thing that should put in this equation is that if you are this pilot class, you can not be a sqaud leader!!! unless they make a special squad of just pilots

but yeah who are we kidding ea/dice will never add anything like this, i mean for real why would they lisiten to the people who alreasy PAID for the game, they have our money, we are know usless (until BF3 comes out) lol

I agree that this would be a neat idea. I would like the "pilots" to only be armed with a pistol. limited on ammo, no nades or anything else other than a knife. Also they would have NO armor. This would make them easy targets when nt actually in a jet or chopper. Also make it so ONLY pilots can fly. that way no other class would take the jet or plane. THAT IMO would be very cool indeed.

oh yeah and only pilots/co-pilots get chutes. all others get grapple and drop lines. like while in a chopper when you hit your action key to jump out, you soldier repels out and down to the ground very quickly. THAT would be sweet!

As it is now, if you spawn and no aircraft are available you still have a combat capable kit to head to the fight with. If they change it so you have to have pilot class to fly you are uselessly waiting for someone to die. A better Idea might be to allow the changeing of kits during the game.
For example: pressing the use key in a hanger or on a helipad changes you into a pilot and deposits your kit on the ground to be picked up if needed. You could do the same for commanders assets, ie, assault approaches damaged uav presses use key and is givin the engineer kit to repair. Once repairs are done he can then pick his kit back up or continue as engineer.
anyway just a thought.

It still wouldn't change anything. Those who suck would still fly if they want to, only they wouldn't be able to defend themselves properly at an airstrip. Idiots will still bail out for a flag. You'll still have the same amount of idiots on the runway :/

The only viable solution I've read so far is the commander-like choosing. It would be harsh on beginner pilots, but if the pilots (and co-pilots) had specific aircraft and position in it that only they would take, it could work. Rejected pilot with highest score could be the co-pilot and rack up time/points by sitting there. A bit boring I suppose, though. But just like communism, people are too greedy and some just want to fly all the time. Only suggestion there is that someone make a seperate mod focusing on aircraft, but then, there are flight simulators that can pull this off much better. Maybe the hardcore pilots should move on.

There should be better ways of getting off the airfields as well. I suspect a lot of the airplane camping is because when a guy spawns on the airfield he finds that a handful of other guys also had that great idea and all except one (which blazes off into the skies) are then stuck there till the plane respawns.

Maybe a tram to the battlefront...

i think there should be some way of getting a "permit" type of thing, for certain vehicles.

like an offline course, and if you pass, then you get to drive/pilot that vehicle.

maybe a mod would do it but im sure EA/Dice wouldnt do it for this game,maybe in the future like BF3 or something but i dont think they would change it now

I believe a mod did do it. It was either DC Extended or DC Realism mod, one of them had a pilot class, with an MP5 as the main weapon I think.
