Re: Maybe this will end all the threads about SF performance

btw I figured out how to do multiple profiles with the "oooX" folders and now have 7 quality standards. I got my Raptor replacement today and when I did my fresh install of BF2 and SF (unfortunately my fps are still to low for all high), I tested the profiles and they share the same shader files but DO play at different framerates pretty much equal to what I'd expect. This may be extremely obvious to some people, I have no idea, but if anyone's interested in how to set up multiple profiles you can pm/im me.

Oh and just cause it makes me so happy I figured I'd gush over finally getting COD2 and FEAR to play at very high (but not fully high) settings with decent fps on a 10k compared to a 7.2k. I was afraid that my system still had a bottleneck (besides my processor).

Yep, I'm building a new rig this month with a 7800GTX, 2 gigs of RAM, SATA hard drives, and an AMD X2 4200+ CPU. My current motherboard is AGP only, and it's high time that I make the switch to PCI-E. I've noticed lately that a lot of people that have trouble running the game have AGP video cards, though I really don't think that it should matter since they don't list PCI-E in the system requirements. Besides that, I'm fully prepared for the game not running the way it's supposed to on that machine either. I'm not going to set myself up for disappointment by assuming that it will. I'm not building the new machine to run BF2 better (though it would be nice), I'm building it because I'm really excited about a lot of the titles coming out next year such as Gears of War.

Yeah sure, and because you live in florida, everyone lives in florida, and when you drink a coke everyone drinks a coke.
Goddam get it - Just cause you don“t have problems with the game that doesn't mean they don't exist. The patch screwed the framerates of many people's (high end) systems, while everything else runs fine (even unpatched/demo BF2).

            its true

friend has 6800gt, p4, intel board... 2000$ rig

            Halflife2, far cry - blazing
bf2 - 15fps, everything LOW, and now wont launch at all after patch

i am lucky, somehow my $700 budget rig (with 150$ 6600)
can even do 64 player SF maps great

i love the game, but the code sucks

Your current PC specs are about the same as mine and I don't have any major issues running BF.. Do you? If not why not save yourself a load of money and upgrade in a few months...?

                Good thread!
However, the solution really is unacceptable, but it seems DICE/EA doesn't give a flying f:censored:k. Hopefully the next patch will correct some of the performance issues.

Have a look at my sig, I used to be able to run BF2 in 1280x960@100, everything on High with AA and AF on 8x - and nVidia cpanel set to Quality.

After patch 1.12, performance has dropped quite a bit in vanilla BF2 - and SF is unplayable at these settings. At the hangar ship on Iron Gate, and near the palace (can't remmeber the mapname), performance dropped to 15-20FPS!

I've had to drop my settings to 1024x768, everything on Medium (Dynamic lights and shadows OFF) with 4x AA and AF to achieve framerates of 50-60. In heavy areas it still dips into the low 30s, sometimes even 20s.

I don't have problems in other games; SWAT, CS:S and HL2 runs flawlessly on extreme settings.

1.03 was running perfect. I don“t know why and what they did with the performance and netcode in patch 1.12 but probably they just have to change that back.
I just hope that the new pach will really help (and not bring toooo much more new bugy and problems ;-) and come soon. I wasn“t playing BF2 very much lately because it“s not much fun anymore. Even vanilla BF2....

                      Can anyone answer my question

Why do pc games now always rush out knowing that the game has some hughe issues with it then patch? I mean i never ever bought a game before that I couldnt play out of the box. Sf has been at my house for about 2 weeks now but I cant play it. They knew that the game already had this issue so why release it? I wouldnt care so much if they didnt know of it

Why they always have to rush out games?? JUST take your time. Why they think we like patches and like crap for a game???

I paid 30 dollars for around 4 unlocks in bf2???????? What a waste

My FPS is 90-100+ in vanilla and SF...luvvly, but when our 64 server starts filling up it falls 20%ish, and i get this weird juddering (lag spike) about every 5-10 seconds, especially in choppers and vehicles, and especially on some bigger 64 maps.

When me and a few mates (10-12 players) have a bit of a practice when the servers empty during the day its absolutely fine.

As you can see my specs fully loaded, so I'm assuming its a heavily populated server problem ?

They will rush them out the door, knowing that (Or thinking that) they get the product out while there is still a big buzz about it and knowing that people will buy it. Aditionally if they are getting to about the 80-90% solution (I would think closer to 90-95%) they could put it out... start drawing $$ off of the game that will pay for the programmers to continue to work on fixes/patches.

Sometimes they will try to capitalize on upcomming events (Holidays.. summer breaks for schools... etc)

And often just get the product out because a deadline was set by the HQ.

Cant wait for everything to be perfect.... Duke Nukem 4 tried that (Or claimed to do that) and it took so long people lost interest in the title and they ended up scraping it and in the long term loosing all they put into it.

i don't give a crap about the people who aren't having issues...and i'm tired of everyone telling people what type of system they have. if you have the game, you're probably smart enough not to be running it on a POS computer.

And for the original poster - don't you think the people who are having issues have ALREADY TRIED TURNING THEIR SETTINGS TO LOW??? what a BRILLIANT idea! simply put - my frame rates are still at FIFTEEN with everything on low...and in servers with 2 people in them.

I want my $30 for the expansion and the money i've spent on these lame forums and trying to fix all the settings with the game, the computer and my ISP.

I estimate at minimum wage, EA/Dice owes me at least a few grand.

While I agree to your 2nd paragraph.... (Although it is really unfortunate that your systems performs that badly on low settings)

your 3rd paragraph leaves a bit to be desired. What money have you spent on the forums? Unless.... I have been sneaking in without paying to use them. And did you mean you want them to pay for your computer and isp? because that read a bit wierd and may simply be my interpretation. :) (Just kidding, but you take a good point and simply come up with something as stupid as the original poster, telling people to lower settings, by saying you want to get paid for your internet surfing)
