    Artillery sounds distorted

I just noticed this problem today and I don't know what is causing it. Basically the sound is messed up. When artillery shoots, it emits this continuous echoing streaking-through-air sound from the moment it starts firing to the moment the last shell lands. To make make matters worse, I can hear the sound when I'm not even near artillery and it drowns out all other noise so it gets pretty annoying and distracting. I have all of my drivers updated, I believe. I updated my nforce motherboard drivers which included sound driver updates, etc. but I'm almost positive I wasn't having this problem after updating (which was a couple days ago). I just updated the audio drivers again just in case using a separate installer on the nvidia site but it didn't help. The only other thing I've changed was my sound settings in BF2. I had Hardware Mode and EAX on when I'd been using Software mode with EAX off, and I thought that was the problem but when I changed everything back to software it didn't help at all.

I tried attaching my DXDIAG info, but it was saying my file is too big and when I zipped it, it gave a page not found error. It's onboard sound on a Chaintech VNF3-250. The device name in dxdiag is "NVIDIA nforce Audio", driver name is nvapu.sys version 6.14.0462.0000 dated 4/13/2005. I'm running Win XP with an Athlon 64 3000 processor, 1 GB RAM, Radeon 9800 Pro graphics and I'm using BF2 w/o expansion and with the latest patch. I hope someone has a solution that will help.

It has happened to me all day long no matter if I restart, reinstall sound drivers, reinstall previously working sound drivers, etc. I don't know what else to do.

I have the same problem. The moment the commander launches an artillery strike it makes this irritating sound loop. It can still be heard even when you are no where near the artillerys destination. All I know is, it was working fine before the latest patch. My bro has the same problem with his BF2 as well, so I doubt a reinstallation will do much good.

On the bright side, atleast you know when the enemy is going to launch an artillery strike (I can hear their artillery preparing to fire as well).

Change the sound from hardware to software, worked for me.

My sound is set to software. It does it now no matter what I set it to as far as I can tell.
