I completely agree provided that last sentence is a typo. I have a 25% accuracy with LMGs and I never ever burst fire.

Mg36 is good for all quaters, it doesn't do that great a damage but its a fine gine, whenever Im USMC i use it.

RPK is the best support gun IMO. I've been playing support since the game came out. The PKM is great for spraying but it shoots to slow, does a heap of damage but its too slow, it takes the longest to "get out".

Tip ? Ammo, everyone uses ammo, spam it like crazy. Grenades are your best fired with this kit, unlimited grenades. I've ranked up scores of upto 99 on a 64 player Karkand with Grenades. Watch your UAV though, you gotta time it, and you must learn how to do the jump chuck with grenades, so they go further. Seriously fun. Kill.

The SAW is innacurate compared to the other guns in my opinion but it can take down a lot of **** esp. if your working as a squad. The Saw can be difficult to aim at long distance.

For long to medium distance, you want the mg, pkm, or rpk.

Saw is fantastic for close quarters and takes down bunny hoppers pretty easy.

      Overall:

RPK - Very accurate, heaps of damage.
      PKM - Most damage.
MG - Great overall gun, it must be aimed sometimes, not that great for spraying, comes with accurate 3 shot option.
SAW - Great for close quarters, takes down hoppers easily
And that chinese one.. I think its horrible.

Anyway thats just my opinion and expirience. I used to use the PKM non stop but I kept dieng on close qauters because it was too slow, so thats why I ranked the RPK better. PKM map = Sharqi.
      RPK map = Kharkand.

Support r0x0rz when you're prone aswell, the main reason why this kit is so great is because it doesn't need to reload often, thats why while tubers and such reload you can take em out. Its just faster than some of the guns too and whilst thats happening you can give ammo and get points and throw unlimited grenades too.

Ok, good enough, anyways, if u want, i can post the whole INI file of the PKM (copy and paste). Plus, if u use the PKM, u can really just hear the difference, the PKM really is a slow shooting gun, it sounds that way and it is. If u really want to, creat ur own server, and time the number of bullets for 10 seconds with the RPK and the PKM, you'll see very different results.
No need to post the INI file. It is a bit wierd that I can find multiple sources listing 450rpm and 600rpm but since you have checked it yourself that is good enough for me.

Appologies to 2000sDigitalBoy it appears that you were correct and I have made a fool of myself.

The best support weapon is the pistol, the mg pales in comparison.

            LOL

As support, your main purpose is to provide covering fire for your squadmates, and resupply them when they run low on ammo. You can get A LOT of teamwork points by tossing supply packs around. As far as combat is concerned, ALWAYS fire from a prone position. Try to stay close enough to the enemy that you can still hit them with accuracy, but far enough so they can't run up behind you and kill you.

For guns, my weapon of choice is the PKM. The SAW and MG36 don't seem to pack the power of it, and the RPK has no accuracy. So go with the PKM. :)

            Happy Hunting!

Re: SUPPORT Class: Anyone got any good advice pls?

Listen to iflabs because he's damn right - burst fire will do you no good, since it's not really more accurate, and the time between bursts can be filled with bullet on auto (a bit less accurate, but twice more bullets means twice more chances to hit the target), and you obvously don't need to worry about bullets. (you can test it by yourself, just start a new server and grind some walls :P)

Few tactics i've picked up on non-urban maps :
Tropical tactic #1 : Nice frontliner tactic i adopted was staying behind the highpeak on a slope, this way the enemy can't see you until they climb to the peak and by that time they are within short range (effective LMG range) and you get the upper hand, i racked up insane kills that way and i didn't even have any squad mates backing me up :P
Tropical tactic #2 : Never take the front line if you decide to take the highground and expose yourself to fire, as much as it makes sense in any other game, in bf2 that would equal to shooting jets with AA - you'll only kill the extremely dumb ones :P
So always keep a safe distance behind the other front liners from your team.

The devs should have made the LMG slightly more accurate, but they didn't - so keep that in mind

When yer support you have to think differently than as you would for an assualter. You wouldn't go charging into battle as support, you get shredded. What you want to do is find a spot where you can shoot guys you are focusing on the main battle, try to be sneaky, flank your enemies whenever possible, this works great on Karkand.

Think ahead, where is the enemy going to be coming from? Then set up shop and let loose holy hell. When support, you're a defensive attacker, if you understand. The other guys will usually kill the bad guys closest to you, and its yer job to hold off the reinforcements.

                  PKM all the way

Re: SUPPORT Class: Anyone got any good advice pls?

I've given up on the Support class's LMG. While you can follow the advice in this thread and do OK with it, and sometimes great, it never makes the Support class a fun class to play. If you must play Support, remember that you have an infinite number of grenades. Personally I think this is a better weapon than the Light Machine Gun, and that the Support class should primarily be seen as a Grenade throwing class. Just lob grenades like mad at high traffic enemy areas. Grenade every room you come across. Try to master using grenades with the support of UAV. If you can expertly guess the angle you need to throw to blow up that red dot on your map, then you'll be in great shape.

Also, try to be the first guy to arrive at a battle zone in your squad. Throw grenades ahead of the squad into the attack area. This will clear out enemies, either by killing them or making them flee (which can let your squad mates shoot them in the back). Then, as the battle begins, try to get behind cover and toss grenades at the enemy. Never toss grenades when your teammates are in close range combat with the enemy though. Your job is to toss grenades at the same enemies your squad mates are trying to pick off.

In open areas, try mastering grenade throws to the point where you can throw three grenades at your target in a triangle shape, surrounding him, making it impossible for him to escape all of the blasts.

Finally, the tracer fire coming out of the LMGs can be a great way to grab the attention of enemy forces. If you're shooting at enemies, they're going to easily see where you are, and this can be a good distraction.

One thing you guys seem to have over looked is supports ability to resupply. With this in mind I would like to add that it ts easiest to resupply when in a vehicle, I like to ride in or drive an apc. On some maps you can rack up the points big time like this. This is how I got my badge for this class.....Red

Re: SUPPORT Class: Anyone got any good advice pls?

I didn't read all of these, so this might be a little bit of a repeat. I use the PKM as a squad leader to its best effect to set up a mobile spawn point and a safe retreat point for my squad. Pick a spot behind a corner or down a hall from the flag, but back far enough that nades cannot reach you from around the corner. Go prone and use the iron site. Make sure your squad hugs the wall to stay out of your line of fire. If any enemy comes around that corner you can take them out before they know what hit them and you will not have to reload. It is best to let the enemy come to the PKM. Set up a KZ at close to medium range and rack up the kills.

Don't forget to move positions after it is clear so the guys that respawn don't flank you. Also, you will kill a squad member every once in a while becuase bf2 likes to spawn their heads right in your line of fire :hmm: . AT and C4 guys will love you almost as much as the medic if you are johny on the spot with the amo.

Also what do you reckon is the best support weapon? (I have them all unocked and after trying the SF unlock MG36 I have reverted back to the PKM, wondered what others were using) Thanks for any help or advice you can give

Yeah, it's just a typo from BF2s, it has happened all the way throughout, the UBAR used to say (UBAR doesn't do weapons any more) the min deviation for the G36C was .12, when actually, all spec ops carbines except the AKS-74u are at .2 as min deviation. ANd they reversed the min deviation at the F2000 page in wiki (it says .34, but it should be .43). ANyways, it doesn't matter for accuracy if u burst, cause the dev added per shot is so high, and the max deviation cone, with all lmgs except the SAW and Type 95, after 2 shots, they'll be at the max dev cone. So unless u want to do single shot, it doesn't work well with burst. Also, it's SO easy to get points with ammo bags. It isn't uncommmon for me to get like 50 ammo points in a round. It's especially good with spec ops and C4, i love that.

Also, another thing, since you have to be prone and stationary for best accuracy, it would make sense for the LMG to assume a defensive role. Go prone near an area where you expect (but aren't currently encountering) enemy traffic. Keep a good eye out and lay the smack down on enemies who appear. However, grenades, grenade launchers, and snipers are all concerns.

This is dumb but I do better with the Chinese MG. It must be perception or superstition but that's just how it feels. The fast draw time is also very nice. I know it's supposed to be statistically identical to the SAW.

Also, now that all aircraft will be losing hitpoints, will LMGs be viable against choppers in the next patch? Something I am looking forward to seeing, in addition to the improved accuracy.
