my fps are horrible!

20-40 fps on 64 man maps at these settings:800 by 600 everything medium except for dynamic light and and dynamic shadows are off, and 100 percent distance.

My specs
Athlon 3200 xp
1 gig ram pc 2700
nvidia 6800(not oc)

Shouldn't I be getting better frames on my comp while playing bf2 or am i wrong. I play css on everything maxed out except anti is only at 2. I've played fear at 1280 by 1024 with medium and high settings. BF2 is the only game that runs like **** on my comp. Do I need more ram or a better cpu?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

try 2gb of ram it improved my machines FPS

Make sure all of your drivers are current, most importantly graphics and motherboard drivers.

Also consider downing the sound settings unless you have a seperate sound card like an Audigy card or something.

ive got the same problem, fps 15-40
P4 2.0Ghz
1gb ram
6600 GT @ 619/1200
all the drivers up to date and setting off/low.

I really have no clue anymore what else i could do except on buying more ram. I'm quite sure its not the bottle neck though.

i'm kind of the same way, i have a p4. 1.8 ghz, 1 gig of ram, and a gforce 5700, but i've heard from so many people that increases from 1 to 2 gigs of ram really helps out a lot.

y'all should make sure your psu is powerful enough.
6800 needs atleast 350W psu.

I have my settings on medium...it's playable, but surely I should be better. It gets pretty laggy at times when am sure with the specs i've got it shouldnt...maybe its nothing. Maybe I need to get rid of background prgrams etc?

one should always close all other programs before loading the game. IRC clients and such are harmless. Make sure there are no other users logged on the same machine, they may have a ****load of different kind of programs running.

i get 40 FPS on most settings on high, with Pentium 4 2.65 ghz, 6600GT 0C, 1 gig ram.

sound slows you down horribly. when i had it on low settings sound didnt make a diff, but now the processor is used up doing the higher graphics and cant handle the sound being higher than low.

try turning off VOIP online.

mobo drivers are up to date and the sound settings are set low.
i just ordered a new processor gotta see if it helps...

a nvdia 6600 is equivilent to a 9800 pro so why are you getting the 6600?

upgrade to a 6800/x800 to get a noticable performace increase

This makes a HUGE diff for me (3000 AMD, 1,5gigs, 9600Pro256, onboard audio). Vanilla bf2 runs smoothly on mediumish settings, but turn on voip and here comes the jitterlag. Friends say they don't even need to see my tag on servers to know it's me, the just look for the w-w-w-w-w-w-w-warping guy.

My p4 3ghz 9800 128 with 2 gig ram could'nt play sf2 at all and bf2 performance had degraded that much that when I made any quick movements with the mouse the whole screen would stuffer.
I renamed the bf2.exe, turned everything to low/off and it runs like a dream, and does not look that bad.
Better than not playing it at all which was the alternative. Hopefully the next patch........
