the graphics may look like crap but remember for the pictures they display, they never have the graphics turned up. I have seen games that the pics look like crap, but then I get the game and turn the graphics up and wa la...great game. Operation Flashpoint was like that, but once i turned the graphics up, great game. I can't wait till the second one comes out, and this one that you brought up, i beleive its original name was Independence Lost...and for a time I thought it was lost because nothing had been heard about it...but obviously just changed the name lol

I don't play AA because it drives me nuts. Not the gameplay itself, pre say. I find that it doesn't really play much different from CS. It's the propaganda that makes me want to puke all over my keyboard.

In terms of realism, it's got a lot of the tactical factors down, but it's hardly the simulation of combat that it claims to be.
To make it an accurate simulation they'd need to add a few things.

Your buddy crying for his mother while dying slowly tring to hold his guts in.
Screaming, mutalated babies that have been caught in the crossfire.
Wailing mothers too shellshocked to realize that their 12 year old daughter they've been carrying has been dead for 3 days. Old men emsatculated to the point of being skeletal because the fighting has stopped them from being able to get food for a week. Young boys who's legs have been blown away because they straied into a minefield while playing with their dog. Civilian populated areas that have been declaired "free fire" zones in which the almighty US forces kill everything that draws breath. Homes in flames, lives destroyed, and ideals sold out for the cost of oil.

Add all that in and you'd have a "simulation".

Without it, all you have is CS with improved physics and a big helping of propaganda.

It's a recrutment tool that I have a hate on for because I deem it to be truely vile.

Worse yet... it works. Recrutment has increased since it's release.
I find that to be utterly sick.

I use it for fun! I'm so left wing that I'm basically a card-carrying communist so the propaganda isn't going to work on me. I choose to overlook the propaganda and just enjoy the game.

Your arguements about realism I think takes things too far also. In a completely REAL war sim you'd never get a chance to respawn (and the game formats your HD just show that death isn't fun) . It is still a game, so the emphasis is on fun, and it does a very good job of providing a realistic shooting simulator too.

I know where you're coming from Gimp, but I think that even if AA had all the morbid details of war included in the game that it wouldn't change the minds of those seriously considering joining the armed services. Most of these kids are already highly exposed to the gore of war from pictures they see on the internet and some more in a video game won't let them see the true reality of war and the tragedy that it is to be involved in one. I know because I was one of those kids (well I didn't look at gore on the internet, I did it at my local library!). Luckily I left the army and never had to serve in a combat zone. This is an age old story, old men tell the young to avoid war but young men will still go and fight for the "noble reasons" of glory, God, king and country. They find out too late that there's nothing glorious about dying for your country.

Im sorry guys but that game looks like crap! Look at the ground textures, they look like Quake 1. As for the models, the lighting is horrible, the soldiers look detailed but they look software raytraced. I really can't see anything of value here.

Except those are pics of Operation Flashpoint, NOT Armed Assault.



The game won't be out for another 6 months or so and like others have said I'd rather have better gameplay (and customer support) than sweet graphics (to an extent :) )

Operation Flashpoint is often overlooked as the first "realistic" multiplayer large enviroment FPS. BF:1942 was very "arcadey" in comparison.

BF:2 is more like OP'F than 1942.... Joint Ops is in the middle.

and guys it IS NOT operation flashpoint - armed assault is an entirely seperate game and was begun around the release of OFP1 - it just happens to be done by bohemia aswell - operation flashpoint 2 will be released much later and is basically a high poly version of this engine...
