Ideal use of an APC is the SL on-board (driving or not, doesn't really matter) and using it as a fortified respawn point/transport/covering fire platform.

One of the most amazing displays of teamwork I've ever seen in this game involved a skilled APC driver, a good comunitive SL, and 3 additional good squadies (including me).
On Dragon Valley, we'd use the APC to roll up to an enemy outpost, the driver would tell us to bail out, he'd pop smoke to cover us while we made for cover, then he'd roll back and lead defending armour out... right into my AT fire. We'd push up, waste any remaining infantry, 'n take the point.

Worked like a charm, over and over.

Works well in Kark too.
Hell... works well on just about every map.

The worst one is where the SL is a medic in a single seater jet.

That sorta wacky **** just ****s me off, he's an SL, being totally useless (beyond occaisionally hitting a target, but point in case is that you cant spawn on this douchebag), and worse still, a medic who ain't healing or rez anyone.

Makes me wanna rip the bastards heart out then throw it at him.

On the ante, I gladly ride in anything coming my way. FAV, APC, hummer, vodka or whatever.

I'm not afraid of death in this game, what is there to fear when 15 seconds later you're alive again anyway?

The reason why pilots are medics is because you can fly out of bounds and last a little longer since you'll heal yourself in the vehicle. Maybe they're squad leaders to communicate with the commander to figure out what to assault. If coordinated well between the commander and pilot squadleader it can be like instant arty. If a squadleader is in a plane, you should have enough sense to switch squads if u want that mobile spawnpoint instead of driving yourself nuts.

It seems like most (all?) players use the APC like a mini-main battle tank instead of a fast, durable troop transport vehicle.

I'll grant you that I am no genius when it comes to math, but I think I have this one figured out.

Armored + Personnel + Carrier = an armored vehicle used to carry personnel. Give or take a few decimal places.

The APC is a wonderful and extremely effective vehicle if used as it was meant to be. It was not meant to be:
1. A tank
2. A suitable substitute for a tank
3. A personal (as in one person) transport a la' jeep

As variable mentioned, when used properly to transport squads rapidly around the battlefield, it can effectively decide the outcome of a round. Speed is life, and the APC offers another opportunity to live it.

Side note: if you are having trouble locating an APC, I suggest Mohammad's Used APC and Bicycle Farm. They've got everything in stock, and a few even still run!

Sometimes as a squad. But no one ever uses it to take down things. The APC machine guns are rubbish.

good point, for most situations the placement of the guns make it hard to shoot anyone or do any good

I've had plenty of games on karkand where my SL would drive to the back bases with a fully loaded APC and we would cap all the flags :)

Back before 1.0.3, the APC was a serious squad teamwork weapon. As a squad you go cap as many flags as you wanted. I suggest since this option has been taken away, make the bloody guns better on the APC. Considering it is moving, and even if you are at a stand still and shooting someone, the gun heats to quickly. I reccomend the develops keep either the gun heat the same and apply more damage or less heat, more gun. Don't get me wrong though, its still a great vehicle for squad and great for transport. Its guns are effective (MEC and US) or the vehicle is strong (Chinese), either way, if EA expects us to take full advantage of it and use it like it should be, then need to do some serious changes with those machine guns, but then again the Apc wasn't meant to the ultimate weapon even though at times it can be.

APC and tanks are too vulnerable attack against TOW and AT which are scartted all around the battlefield....
A buggy or a hummer would do a better job in transportation IMO, I can manage to dodge some of the AT rockets w/ those too...

Once I used an APC as an APC. :-D Was interesting.. Karkand, rolling into the area at full out, myself a squad leader, with a full load of soldiers in the APC. Nonstop rush straight for the MEC headquarters. ^^; Was interesting to see the machineguns actually being used.. The enemies scattered all around us as we charged down the road..

Guess having a load of machinegun fire coming from every possible direction around an armored vehicle really freaks people out. ^^ Wicked cool stuff.

Well I was referring to events where a full squads leader starts jetting. Rips a good squad to pieces especially if this schlong is a replacement...

True story: similar happened tonight. Full squad gets put down when SL and chum get in a cobra. Whats the use of having SL when they do nothing for the other 80% of the team?

If my stats are to prove anything, its that i can defend myself. But not always, and doods like that dont help.

I use the APC to transport troops whenever they want to jump in...most of the time troops just don't get in even when I ask them too...

So I usually end up steaming down the hill and go cap a flag on the other side of the map by my self.

I don't think that the APC is unsuited to do it's particular job, I think it is rather good at its job, although as some of you have said the APC should have better guns, it's really not intented to do anymore then pin down the odd soldier or supress a rather angry group of MEC troops.

It's surprising speed is extremely valuable and its extra armour also a nice benefit.

I don't think it's the APC is not designed to do its job, I think it's just peoples attitude towards it, like many other things in this game, people are selfish and uncaring when it comes to online FPS. They want easy frags and stats and unless your stupid you can easily get more kills then deaths in an APC. OR on the otherhand it could be people think they may be of better use to the team if they go and cap a flag on their own. It could be one of many different varibles. However, I do agree that it could be used to better effect if communication was used more in-game. Thats the bone of the problem, communication.

We either need to lose the CS player attitude or find a decent clan or find community to play with. I find it surprising that all most people type is

Oh wait.. now you cant just park next to a flag and cap it in 5 seconds before taking off, ignoring enemy infantry hiding all around the flag.

You can still cap flags as quick, you just need to get out ya pansy.

I do it on Iron Gator all the time, so long as Im not on the SEALs side.

Its great because you capture that flag thats in the dry dock first, and with the APC you can take out anyone thats guarding that flag, and let your boys hop out and take control real fast.

If I cant get anyone in the APC, then I just make my way over to the other side, and if they havent gotten their chopper off the ground, I take that out. I also like hanging out by the plane deck, with the elevator up, and take down as many guys running around as possible.
