What BF2 can Learn from CS:S

Well let me first appologize for my spelling...

Second let us recognize the differences between the 2 games. CS:S has smaller maps and No vehicles but is built on an older Game playing Engine...HL2. BF2 has larger Maps and vehicles but is built on a Newer engine...alto it doesn't seem like it. But get those differences out of the way and they are the same games...Kill, Complete objectives, Rinse and Repeat.

For the last week or 2 My BF2 and BF2:SF has been acting up, Horrible ping, altho my Internet is running fine, and **** poor Customer service from EA. Well I love online fighting and matching my skills against other is like modern day gladiators. So I have had CS:S for a year but never played it.

I install CS:S and have steam automaticly begains to Download the needed patches...cool...and it take about an Hour...not bad.

I play Vanilla CS about 4 years ago and expected the same...I open the first map...Office and WOW just WOW!!! The graphics are amazing...if BF2 could get 50% of what year old CS:S has the game would be alot better.

The Detail that is in Every aspect of the game down to the picturs on the wall are amazing. When looking at computer monitors ingame you see a windows desktop. It is just beautiful.

CS:S isn't as indepth of a Game as BF2 good or bad? You deside.

In short CS:S Ownes BF2 in graphics...but gameplay is a little different. After playing about 3 hours I notice that CS:S is about 25% Lucky, 25% just throwing lead around, 25% skill and 25% randomness. Im not to impressed...want to take out a guy...just hold the triger and walk around the courner...and what do you know he is dead with a head shot. CS:S also has a built in Aim assist, now granted BF2 rounds fly like they were shot out of a musket, but CS:S rounds always happen to find the head...from around courners. Im not to big on that either.

BF2 has slightly better "Fun" Gameplay medics to revive and support to resupply, plus more indepth game play, destroying Assest and bridges. CS:S alittle bit more realistic and Alot better graphics.

Well im in a delema...I like BF2 but LOVE CS:S Graphics...a Week ago before EA messed up my ping and provided Horrible Customer service I was ranked in the top 1000th. So do I reinstall BF2 and pick up were I left off? I will try again this week and see what my ping is like...but man am I going to miss those Graphics....

So if EA could learn to provide better customer service, Improve the Grapichs to CS:S standards they would have an awsome combination.

I do wish the ragdolls were more CS:S like instead of the balloon poeple we have now in BF2.

Well, if you wanted BF2 to look like CS:S, you'd need NASA to make your own computer to run it. Then you would have to take out a loan just to buy it. BF2 has too much going on to really have crazy awesome graphics...but most people here seem to like the graphics fine. And CS:S is much smaller environments, so it can afford the close attention to detail. We'll get there sooner or later, but not yet.

you can't really compare the graphics of both games because they're two totally different games. your statistics for CS are just plain absurd as well. there's nothing wrong with the game and it does not have some kind of builtin aiming assistence. you could argue that there's a certain percentage of luck/randomness/skill in a real life fire fight and we all know how many innumerable variables exist in real life. if you have ever played a LAN game of CS you will know how great the hit detection and the overall responsiveness of the game is.

it's amazing that valve managed to make the game play so well over the internet too. i dare you to find a game that has better hit detection and responsiveness than CS. you can't. that's why CS is 5-6 years old and still going strong. you can't beat a game that has had nearly a decade of work and optimisations put into it. when's the last time you emptied a clip on a bunny hopper only to have them kill you while you didn't get a single hit? put yourself in the same situation in CS and you would have one more point to add to your score. i rest my case.

Re: What BF2 can Learn from CS:S

yeah, it comes down to how much is going on during the game, with everything going on in BF2, it'd take one hell of a comp to look like CS:S.

Although, the author of the thread makes a great point about Steam. I've heard plenty of "i like to d/l my own patches, etc.. bs" but seriously, the game stays up-to-date, and for anyone who's ever had to manually update their server, or wait on a host to do it, clicking one button from a control panel and having steam do its thing is priceless. I keep steam running in the background as long as I'm not playing bf2, and 1/2 the time I miss the updates completely.

It'd be nice to see other developers go this route, I mean, Steam VS. the gamespy/EA account servers.....which one would you take?

Let's see. What can BF2 learn from CS:S? Other than better physics...nothing.

CS:S has lots of hitbox issues, it's far from perfect. Check out the steampowered forums.

I basically agree especially concerning CS in a LAN but the Quake 3 engine has an overall better hit detection than CS or HL ever had.

Re: What BF2 can Learn from CS:S

CS is not as team focused as BF2, CS is either hostage rescue or terrorist bombing, no flag cap...

They really are 2 different games....BF2 is a squad based military fighting game...CS is a team based (can be very lone wolf) CQC game...

As others have stated the gfx at this current time would be impossible to reproduce in BF2 as they are in CS....

Finally, the rag doll physics are pretty sweet but even they arent to realistic....Like when the bodys go flying.....how they fall is pretty sweet though....

yes, i read the steampowered forums quite often. i personaly never have hitbox issues, online or on LAN. CS is a perfect game in nearly every single aspect for me, i used to go along with all the hitbox nonsense but now i just use the "quirks" of the engine to my advantage. those that know have good games and those that don't create steampowered forum accounts. you are just another victim of the "bandwagon effect" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bandwagon_effect ). the more and more people spread lies about something they really don't even have a clue about, the more and more everybody believes it.

i agree about quake 3, but it is basically a dead and buried game now and quake 4 isn't looking much better . so that leaves CS as the king again

Just because you haven't experienced the issues doesn't mean they don't exist. I've seen the issues before when I use to play it (granted it has been awhile since I've played it, maybe they are better now). But you even admit there are "quirks" to the game.

i experience these "issues" you speak of everytime i play. like i said, i use them to my advantage. it's just the way that the game is meant to be. however, BF2 can definitly learn something from CS because as of this moment, BF2's hitboxes suck major ass and i think that's something everyone can agree on.

yeah, BF2 is definitely worse. And is much more dependent on server ping than CS:S.
