i have the new xpx m70 laptop with the go 7800 gtx. with all the coupons u can get on it, its almost like stealing. my dad ordered it but i think he payed around $2000 for it, he got a %40 percent off coupon and he had a $100 rebate. I love it and its a laptop that can play all the games with great graphics, even better than most desktops.

      How about an Opteron DC with SLI 7800GTX 512s + 4 gigs DDR400 + 3 WD Raptor 10,000 RPM in Raid 0+1.

      Who gets WTFpwned then?

Re: Anyone here own a DELL XPS?

You can build better/faster/cheaper dell computers from the www.dell.com site simply by picking a different base and adding the same stuff to it.

Additionaly going to www.tweak3d.net will usually have pretty decent coupons for dell.

When I got my dell I selected the pieces at the time which were equivelant in a max loaded XPS and got better price due to the coupons and rebates.

Only thing I didnt get that the xps had was the Case and the XPS service phone number for any potential problems.

That's not true. They don't offer you the faster and better memory or the top line video cards unless you select the XPS. The XPS is also easier to upgrade because they give you more room in the case. It is very difficult to upgrade Dell PCs that aren't the XPS because there is very little space and they also come with an inadequate power supply.

They are very over priced. I really wish I would have built it myself and saved.

I bought a Dell XPS almost 2 years ago. It has a P4 3.2 2 gigs of ram soundblaster sound card I did upgrade the video card just recently but it rocks BF2. I paid 1800.00 delivered with a 19in monitor 5.1 surround sound speaker system with a huge sub. and wireless keyboard and mouse. Still runs great. I really dont consider it overpriced and it runs everything you put in it really well. I believe they have a similar systerm on sale right now for the holidays. Obviously it has a better processor but the price is comparable.

Yeah, I have XPS system as well. I got it for ~$1600 without the 19 inch monitor. However, I got extra Norton Anti-virus and securities stuffs.
                        CPU 3.2
                        SB ZS
                        NVidia 6800
Dual 512MB RAM (but I upgrade to 1.5 GB)
                        150GB HD (I added extra 200GB HD)
The pc tower look very nice.
Anyway, I have viewsonic 19" monitor just matching the silver and black of the tower.

Hmmm. You might want to look into that one again. I am looking at my system and it has all the things the XPS had (to include the memory... video card etc (top of the line at the time I bought it)) sound card etc... and I paid MUCH less than the XPS price.

They are equally easy to upgrade as I have plenty of room in my 8400.

While I am not questioning your knowledge, i have to ask... what model are you using to compare the xps too? I would say you have not seen the inside of an 8400 or you would have responded differently. I have a budy with an XPS and There is little to no difference in our systems... withexception of case design. To include the interior space and room for expansion.

What about 24/7 support and 4 year warranties?

I have a Dell XPS Generation 4 and where do i start? This thing was worth its money, I talked about it in other threads so i kinda feel like i would seem redundant. But what can i say superfast, bf2 on all high with 50 bots and around 60 fps. I have not even upgraded anything at all on the original system i got almost a year ago. Out of the first year of owning it the only thing i found that you can't do that you can do in other systems is overclock the processor, however the newest model of XPS, the XPS 600 can now do that, along with its 2x 7800 GTX's 512 its pretty amazing. Although this system is already very fast so i wouldn't need to overclock it. However the price yes, the only downside. I got this system a year ago so things were much more expensive but i got the 20.1 flat-panel...5.1 surround and so on. Yeah my comp was up there in price, but its amazing for sure.

It helps if you are going to respond to my original post... to have read my original post where I said:
Only thing I didnt get that the xps had was the Case and the XPS service phone number for any potential problems.
Which, to the average reader would cover your XPS special phone line... but 24 hour support? All Dells get that. You just have a special line... and it still connects to the same tech support people in India as my line... you just get preferential treatment (Bumped to the front of the queue)

And you get 4 years.... to my 2 yrs of coverage... I have never kept a computer longer than about 2 years... and at the end of 4. I imagine you are strugling to keep up with current games. (I could be wrong, but I look at video cards that were new a year ago that are allready falling behind the curve on games today) And while you can upgrade them.... your 4 years of service will not cover what you add. Unless you buy that from dell and a person would be foolish to buy a video card from dell.

I am also running the 20 inch ultrasharp.... 5.1 surround, 3.4hgz... Only thing I added was another GB of RAM (Bringing it to 2 gb) Ah.... that and I added a 200 GB SATA drive. (Wife takes a lot of digital pictures). Only thing I didnt upgrade that was also offered on the XPS as an option was the 6800 gt card. I stayed with the plain 6800 -( On a side note I also thought I could flash it to the GT model, but didnt see till after I bought it you could only do that the the AGP model... not the PCIe version )

In all I payed a little over 800 for mine. Rebates and coupons (codes)off a few web sites (That was before the additional 1gb ram and 200gb drive) add another 250-300 for that so about $1050-1100 total).

Still think I should have built my own, but Then I would have had to buy all the software... set it up.. etc and I was more in a mood for speed/convenience of the system at the time.

                              Dell 8400:
                              P4 3.4ht
                              2gb DDR2 RAm @533mhz
                              SB Audigy 2 ZS
                              80gb Sata
                              200gb Sata
                              nvidia 6800

                                Moot point, for 2 reasons.

                                1. Anyone who has enough education to build their own PC, can also troubleshoot it ostinsively. So sitting on the phone talking to Anub is only gonna waste time and is only for those who have no clue what they are doing. Plus we have the 50% we saved off the Dell Price to spend in upgrades, repairs, etc.

                                2. Dell uses ANY and EVERY excuse to void out your warranty. You call Dell support, they ask for your name, and then ask you several questions to trick you into saying something that tips them off that you voided out the warranty (opening the case, adding certain peripherals, installing an OS other than using the Dell Recovery disks, etc) So they cancel your beloved warranty and that hotline and warranty become worth nothing.
