Playing with lighting on anything but low would give you a disadvantage since it would be harder to see the enemy in certain situations.

contrails and smoke are much easier to see when effects are on high. Personally I have Effects\Geometry on high , shadows off , the rest at medium settings. Runs pretty decent on a 2.16Ghz AXP 1Gb ram and an old 9700 pro.
