tv gun is the most powerful weapon on an attack chopper. but u need to guide it by clicking ur fire button.

If you're going to learn to fly, make sure you do it the most populated server you can find. Snake the chopper from a much more experienced pilot than yourself and wait for a naive gunner to hop in. Now you can either take off right away or idle for a few minutes till you get your bearings. Don't let anyone rush you, you paid $50 for this god damn game remember?

Now that you're situated and ready to take off, slam on the throttle and jerk your mouse from one end of your desk to the other. This is the only way I can think of that will allow you to flip upside down upon take off causing you to crash right back into the pad. Make sure your explosion takes out as many teammates as possible. If by some off chance your gunner or one of the bystanders you just porked gets a teamkill on you due to BF2's super accurate TK detection system, make sure you punish the everloving bejebus out of them.

As soon as you respawn run back to the pad and grab the chopper again. After your amazing display of competence your teammates will be happy to let you snake them again. That pretty much seems to be the standard operation for flying a chopper in this game.

(This varies per helo, but is usually around 30%, as indicated by the bar on the left side of your HUD). When you first hop in, start w/ the throttle lever at zero, and keep moving it up SLOWLY until you see the thing just barely move... at that point you should be pretty balanced... then I just use the W/S keys when need - to accellerate/decellerate
Thats exactly how I and most experienced chopper pilots do it. However, I do not hover in one place...i am allways moving...moreover...I am usually circle strafing.
Gunners drive me crazy by using that TV missle on soft targets. As a gunner, go for AA first, then 50 cals on jeeps....and allways do a spot on the other chopper as soon as you see it so i know which way to turn if I lose sight of him. If you see a tank, dont assume I want you to use the TV missle. That tank isnt a threat to us. I want to knock out all the soft targets around him first....AA, 50 cals, infantry...then I may hover for you or Ill take him out depending on the threats around us. My first priority as a pilot is staying alive and not diving in and crashing. Be a good gunner before you start piloting and youll appreciate a good gunner when you do start.

          "sounds stupid but practice

get on a sp map and practice like mad"

Or create a local game and practice. That way you wont get shot down.

Tip #1 - Diving missile attacks = crashes....and a lack of volunteers for the next gunner seat. Until you get a good feel for the way it pulls out of a dive don't drop your nose more than about 15 deg to hit a target. You are better off going around and realigning the shot. Better yet, let your gunner TV missile the target. If he's decent, then he's gonna' be the best weapon on board.

Tip #2 - The attack chopper is not the best tool for capping flags. It's better suited to stand-off support. Too much hovering close to the ground will result in your being an easy target for the AT guy that just spawned. If you do try to cap a flag remember to keep rotating so you or your gunner can have a chance of getting him first.

Tip #3 - When engaging another attack chopper, altitude is your only friend. He who is higher is usually the winner. If you see him first try to gain altitude on him and approach from the back 1/3 blind spot. Directly behind makes for a pretty small target, especially on the cobra.

Tip #4 - When engaging another attack chopper in a face to face, guns and missiles blazing showdown....never dive under his nose to get away. You end up making big fat target for a TV missile.

This was gold. I laughed out loud in my office at work and got some looks from my co-workers. The funny thing is that I fly like that a lot. My chopper flying is legendary on my favorite server. My buddies don't mind if I do some practicing on the server when it's not very full. My ego is always righting checks my body can't cash. But we have a good time there and noone gets upset. We just have some laughs. If a real serious game breaks out, I leave the flying to the real pilots.

I agree with sparky on this. Along those lines, Ill give you a golden tip for Sharqi. When the map first starts and you are MEC, get in the chopper and go up and to the right. This serves 2 purposes. The first is if someone gets on the AA on shore, youre staying out of their range. The second is that the US chopper usually comes diving straight for your helipad(remember, the US chopper starts higher than yours). When he does that, he wont see you, but youll see him and have the height advantage.
