the CPU processes the baseline tasks. The essentials of the program.

The GPU processes textures and things dealing with the actual graphics and some of the physics.

Plus, like i already said. YES a 64 bit processor at similar clocks is faster. Just not SO much faster than he is gonna see a massive increase. A little, but not a ton.

The simple fact is...he can get by fine on a 32bit CPU, but 64 bit CPUs are cheap enough that everyone should be upgrading to them anyway. But a 2.4Ghz 32 bit or 64 bit are both going to do just fine.

After all, i run a 64 bit 2.4Ghz processor and BF2 runs GREAT. But it also runs better on a friend of mines 32 bit 2.66 Pentium 4 that has slightly better video card than I have, and the same RAM.

The CPU is truly a moot point if they are that close in clock speed.

Ok, you seem to be looking at this from the theoretical side, where as i am looking at it from the logical side, i agree with most of your statement, i run a 2.1 Ghz processor with a nvidia geforce fx 5200 (128MB) and 1GB of ram, my processor is a 32 bit and i can tell you that my computer runs BF2 on low, well actually it is below the default setting of low on BF2 so his computer isn't going to run it "well" with the new processor, and if it was a 64 bit he probbaly would be able to run it on a good level, however his graphics card probbaly would be a limiting factor then.
When you have specs like his, a little extra power goes along way to making the game look better, it will up your frame rate vastly, it may not be much moe powerful in reality but it will make alot of difference when playing.

I used to have a system just like that, but sold it to my roommate for 100 bucks, he now runs BF2 on it (after formatting and all) on 1024x768, all settings on low and no AA...
